RE: Giving back Perl
Title: Giving back Perl Pl. send me a copy of the code. -Original Message-From: Koivu, Lisa [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2002 12:30 PMTo: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-LSubject: Giving back Perl Hello everyone - I've been trying to write more Perl lately and after showing my Perl mentor some of the stuff I had written over the last couple of weeks the first thing he said was "why don't you give back to the community". So I figure if I offer up my latest creation I could 1. give back and maybe help a person or two and 2. receive comments on my coding. My coding style is rather simplistic and I would appreciate any comments about what I'm doing wrong/how something could be done differently (TMTOWTDI), etc. My environment is W2K sp2/8.1.7.2. I slapped together a script that fires backup controlfile to trace (including the stored proc) and ftp's it off to another server. If anyone is interested in seeing it please email me directly. RE: stopiing write to listener.log
Peter, How do you set the 'Log Rotation' ? From command line utility 'lsnrctl' or is there any parameter for listener.ora ? Another thing: How do I track the exact SQLs being sent to the Oracle server ? I remember somebody on this list gave some hints in this direction. I just don't remember now the parameter name that I have to set in the listener.ora (some levl=16 or something like that ?) thanks Santi -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2002 6:44 AMTo: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-LSubject: RE: stopiing write to listener.log Shibu, OK so I now understand a little better your need. Of course there is listener OFF (logging_listener=off) As I said this really does defeat the point. Their are two approaches that spring to mind. Log Rotation or writing to a pipe. Log Rotation: Every x hours stop the listener, rename the file, start the listener You can then do stats on normal connections and save just the error and startups et al ... Writing to a pipe: Would mean that you create a pipe alert_SID.ora and have a process that would read from the pipe everything but normal connections. The disadvantages are - that you may not be able to do this on your NT box. - you lose all your stats of cnxs Peter -Message d'origine-De : Shibu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Envoyé : jeudi 7 février 2002 14:15À : Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-LObjet : Re: stopiing write to listener.log Hi peter I have thousands of connection in my db and listener.log is growing very fastly. Before I tell you procedure, be aware that when you make a clone of your database DBID remains the same, which is a problem if you use RMAN for you backups. Steps are: 0. On your database issue: alter database backup controlfile to trace resetlogs; 1. Backup your database. 2. Shutdown database (shutdown immediate) 3. Copy all your datafile, logfiles, controlfiles to the new location 4. Edit your new init.ora file and change DB_NAME, DB_BLOCK_SIZE must be the same, change path for controlfiles, user_dump_dest, background_dump_dest, core_dump_dest 5. Edit your new controlfile (which you get in step 0) and change it in: CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE SET DATABASE 'NEWSID' RESETLOGS and change the path of datafiles and logs 6. Recreate you control file. 7. Change your tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files. This should do. I had no problems in doing that HTH, Sonja -Original Message-From: MRaval [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 7:55 PMTo: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-LSubject: Duplicating a Database and Changig SID Hi Guys, I am newbie oracle DBA and want to duplicate my development database to Test database and want to change ORACLE_SID, Could anyone tell exact steps that I have to follow. thanks Ruth. Santi -Original Message- Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2001 6:46 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L I thought I had another one but I can't find it. It was done by Michael Abbey of Pythian Consulting of Ottawa, Canada. His presentaion was entitle something like 'If you don't use rman now you will' and explained how rman uses oracle internals to avoid problems. Cheers Mark -Original Message- Gramolini Sent: 29 November 2001 13:05 To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L I have used rman exclusively for all backups since I started with Oracle. It was very buggy before 8.0.6 but after that it is very stable. It is well worth learning, I can send you some articles about is if you would like. You can't send attachments on the list. RE: enable the partitioning option in database?.
what do you do for NT ? -Original Message- Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 9:33 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Assuming you have installed the Oracle Partitioning option, there may be an extra step required to "enable" it, and that is to make sure you relink with the correct option. See the following excerpt taken from MetaLink: To enable the Partitioning Option you must relink the rdbms executable. Ensure that the database is shut down and relink as follows: cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib For 8.0.x: make -f ins_rdbms.mk part_off (to disable) make -f ins_rdbms.mk part_on (to enable) make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle For 8.1.x: make -f ins_rdbms.mk part_off ioracle (to disable) make -f ins_rdbms.mk part_on ioracle (to enable) HTH Gerardo -Original Message- Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 5:55 AM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L hI GURUS' How can i enable the partitioning option in database?.
