Hi I only have one database running on this machine.. I have read somewhere that you can use sqlnet.ora instead of protocol.ora ? Hi We used to use the protocol.ora file to restrict access to the database, on oracle 8.0.5 However since moving to Oracle 8.1.6.3 this doesn't work. Am I missing something or is there something wrong. archivelog mode
Hi All While enabling automatic archiving on our 8.1.7 database I get the following error :- ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby ie the database is in archivelog mode and I edit the parameter file to enable automatic archiving .. Locally Managed Tablespace
Hi all I am getting this error while running a large query, I recently created this locally managed temp tablespace... Startup (URGENT)
After re-starting the database, the db application seems really slow after looking into it smon seems to be taking up 50% of the cpu !! What is smon doing , is there any way to get around this ?? I have tried leaving it for a while ! Hi I have been a DBA for a few years now, I am consdering doing the OCP exams I have bought the Oracle 8i DBA certification Exam Guide. However I have been informed by a fellow DBA that he bought the same book, studied it and took the practice tests and was getting around 90% in these tests.. however when he came to doing the actual he just failed ! Does anyone have any thoughts on this ? ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed
Hi Using Oracle 8.1.6.3 on Solaris 2.7. I get this error ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed when trying to startup my database.. if I reboot the machine then it starts up without problems.. From reading previous e-mails.. I'm led to belive that the semaphores need to be increased. Shutdown and archivelog mode
Hi Using Oracle 8.1.6.3 on solaris 2.7. I am trying to put my database in archivelog mode. When I try to shutdown the database using shutdown immediate, it just sits there for ages.. (left it for 30 mins). I've cancelled this and done a shutdown abort. (tried normal shutdown after that, same) Due to this when I try to put it archivelog mode after shutdown abort I get a message saying that the database can't be put into archivelog mode because recovery is needed. Processes
Hi all We are running Oracle 8.1.6. and OAS 4.0.8.2 on Solaris 2.7 We access the database from a web browser, using the pl/sql cartridge. My question is how to identify who is running what package.. In instance manager we get a session id, status, username (application user) and for program wrks@sid(TNS V1-V3) The application user details are stored in the data access Descriptor (DAD) in OAS, the user actually logs in as themselves. wrks@sid(TNS V1-V3), this tells us its a web process.. but nothing else. Also on the server when run 'top' this is the output... 12653 oracle 1 70 278M 260M cpu/2 40:52 18.17% oracle How can we tell what this is doing ? Date / Time
Hello All I want to display the time elapsed between two dates - in days, hours, minutes and seconds. If I do select date1 - date2, the result is : 12.0194907 Is there a function that will turn the number of days into something more legible? Ideally i'd like to do ; to_char(12.0194907,'DD:HH:MI:SS') but obviously that won't work. Is there a solution other than writing a complex function myself which will have to * by 24, / by 60 and substr etc to get the different bits of the number? OAS
I've re-installed OAS, in a different directory to oracle 8.1.6 server. I have just installed Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 2.6 The machine already has Oracle 8.0.4 installed.. (I shut this database down, as I intended to remove all of it. Now I am getting this error when I try to startup my new 8.1.6 database. Upgrade 8.0.4 to 8.1.6
Hello I am in the process of upgrading from 8.0.4 to 8.1.6.. it asked if I wanted to migrate my 8.0.4 datafiles to 8.1.6. I said yes to this and it started migrating, this was on friday. Today it still seems to be going , its a 8 gig database..; If I click on Finish it says that the upgrade hasn't finished.. If I click on the cancel it says that if u cancel the database won't be in the original state. The status bar has only moved a fraction. Should it take this long ? Should I cancel ? Hello DBA's I have recently upgraded from 8.1.6.0 to 8.1.6.3. I seem to be having a weird problem in sql*plus, in that whenever I do a describe on a table it comes up with the following error :- SQL desc emp; ERROR: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel I can run select statements without any problems ! Hi All After upgrading from 8.1.6.0. to 8.1.6.3 I am getting the following error repeatedly.
