RE: deleting a datafile on OPS

2002-02-07 Thread Shantanu Talukder

Jay is absolutely right. Paul, if you would like to
know more about your datafile issue go to
'metalink.oracle.com' and check out 'Note:111316.1',
which will explain everything about datafile re-org.

Re: Oracle Recovery from Cold backup.

2001-09-21 Thread Shantanu Talukder
As long as you have all archived log files in log archive destination directory, which is defined in init.ora, you don't have to do anything but type 'auto' while doing recovery. Oracle will automatically apply all necessary archive log files and then you need to open database.

How to identify sql texts which are having open cursor?

2001-06-05 Thread Shantanu Talukder

Our application is using up open_cursor limits of 500.
We are suspecting that application code written in
Java
are not closing cursors explicitly.
Is there a way to idntify those sql code which are not
closing cursor?
We just don't want to increase open_cursor parameter
in init.ora and bounce the db without identifying sql.

RE: ULIMIT setting: Urgent Please Help

2001-05-23 Thread Shantanu Talukder

In IBM-AIX you can set ulimit unlimited. If I remember
correctly, go to /etc/security/ and open 'limit' file
then you can make an entry like :

# -1 is for unlimited.

ulimit = -1

Re: Import (urgent)

2001-02-28 Thread Shantanu Talukder

That's not true anymore. In IBM/AIX you have to create
JFS with large file enable option and in addition to
that in your /etc/security/limits file you need to set

fsize=-1, which means 'unlimited'. Now, you can check
it by using 'ulimit' command.

RE: TEMP tablespace segment management

2001-02-26 Thread Shantanu Talukder

Srini,

Answer to your question is NO, as far as I know.

Why don't you define your temporary tablespace as
'TEMPORARY' assuming your database is at least 7.3 !

Example:

alter tablespace temp temporary;

If you do so, the tablespace cannot be used to hold
any permanent segments, only for temporary segments
created during queries. When the query completes, the
space used by the temporary segment within the the
temporary tablespace is not dropped. Instead, the
space used by the temporary segment is available for
use by other queries; this allows the sorting
operation to avoid the costs of allocating and
releasing space for temporary segments.

RE: OT: this is the last thing we need

2001-02-16 Thread Shantanu Talukder

Clinton was the best president in US history. He is
the
one who lead the country towards economic boom after
having BUSHY economy! I do not have to approve clinton
100% but thanks to him for his excellent presidency.
Larry is a visionary and he knows how to appreciate
other talents. I am glad that he invited Ex-President
Clinton. For those of you, who wants to change their
career please go ahead and try to learn 'BUSHY RDBMS'
or wait for eating trashes made by hateful republican
congress.
mumble..jumble...sublimilile?
