Re: protocol.ora
Sajid, I used protocol.ora to restrict connection based on ip on oracle 8.1.6.3.0 and now 8.1.7.2.0 (Solaris 8). I don't have problem. However, when I had two sets of databases running on the same ORACLE_HOME and using two listeners for these two sets of databases, I had complications. The behavior was that the listener that had the protocol.ora in the directory had to be started after the other one (somehow the restriction stayed in the memory). If you failed to start the restricted-listener last, or restarted the open-connection listener after the restricted-listener is running, then the open-set of databases don't have open connections. Hope this helps. Re: Oracle hangs...Oracle 8.1.7.3 and Solaris 2.7
I am sure that you don't have any invalid objects after the patch application. I had a lot of problem with that after a patch application two years ago. Re: oracle 8.1.7 patch 2 or 3?
Thanks Bill. I will keep that in mind. Sometimes the vendor doesn't want to spend time to help out and find this as the reason to do so. oracle 8.1.7 patch 2 or 3?
Hi, I am managing a software that uses a set of 8 oracle databases. I am preparing to upgrade all my databases from 8.1.6.3.0 to 8.1.7.0.0 then apply a patch to the oracle software installation after the upgrade. The software that uses these databases are only certified on patch 2 level at the time of release. Since now the patchset 3 for 817 is available, I would like to get advice in whether to apply patch 3 instead of patch 2. Same amount of work, more benefits. The only thing is that the application vendor does not officially support the patch3. platform: Sun Solaris 2.8 Oracle EE server 8.1.6.3.0 Any input is appreciated.
