Prices of the Oracle internet Developer Suite components

2001-04-20 Thread djordjej

Listers,

Oracle Designer can now be bought as a part of the "Oracle internet
Developer Suite" which has Developper (FormReports) and JDevelopper as
weel. I would like to know what is the relative relation of the prices of
those three parts. Does anyone has an older PO with Developper and
Designer, where could be seen what was the relative price of the two. As
far as I know JDevelopper was always sold bundled.

Thanks.

2001-04-07 Thread djordjej

Hi,

parameters (13M). Any ideas why? :

Re: changing db_block_size

2001-03-28 Thread djordjej

To change the block size you have to recreate the database.

How you are going to copy the data that's another issue. You can use full
database export/import (pretty long downtime, or problems with data
consistency) or you can do a live copy. More on a live copy you can see in:
Venkat S. Devraj, Oracle 24x7 Tips Techniques, Osborne Press, 2000. I am
currently working on a similar project (live database migration). I will
present some results at IOUG if you are there.

 all,

I would like to change the db_block_size (currently 2048) of our
production
database and would be interested in hearing from those that have done this
on a
not so small database. This is our oracle financials/manufacturing server
and
is about 30GB in size. Did you recreate the database using imp/exp or
another
 method?

Running Oracle 8.0.5 on Sun Solaris 7.

 thanks in advance...roy

Execute priv to an isolated procedure inside a package

2001-03-26 Thread djordjej

Hi friends,

One cannot grant execute privilege to a specific procedure/function inside a
package, but only for all or nothing that is in that package.

Anybody has an idea how this limitation can be overcomed. One idea is to
create a separate stand-alone procedure that will just be a wrapper around
the packaged procedure and call it. Any other ideas.

Thanks.

Re: URGENT Oracle ERROR!!!

Here is the document from Metalink regading this error:

 Type:

 Content Type:

 Creation Date:

 Last Revision Date:

 Error: ORA-27072
 Text: skgfdisp: I/O error
 ---
Cause: read/write/readv/writev system call returned error, additional
information indicates starting block number of I/O
 Action: check errno

*** Important: The notes below are for experienced users - See
[NOTE:22080.1]

 Explanation:
This error was introduced in Oracle8.

The error is raised in port specific code so the exact system calls
preceeding the error can vary between platforms. The error indicates
that a read or write call either:

 a) returned an error
or
 b) returned a value indicating that the number of bytes
read/written
does not match the number of bytes we asked to read/write

Hence the error number reported may or may not be meaningful.
If the read/write returned an error then the ERRNO reported corresponds
to the actual read/write call used. If the read/write returned a
different
number of bytes to that expected then ERRNO is just the left over error
from some previous system call and should be ignored.

Additional information is the first BLOCK NUMBER being read/written
   in the named file.

 Diagnosis:
   1. 2Gb limits (or other limits) can cause this sort of error so check if
the filename reported in the corresponding error is a large file.
The block number in the additional information can help show if you
  are close to this limit.

   2. It is helpful to know the system call which caused the error so
exact version information is important. If the error is repeatable at
will then TRUSS or similar may help identify the call raising the
error.

   3. Determine if the file/s are on raw devices / logical raw volumes or
  file system files.

 References / Known Bugs etc..
 ~
There are several known issues that can cause this error, plus it can be
a non-Oracle problem so it is important to collect all the information:

2Gb or not 2Gb - file limits in Oracle [NOTE:62427.1]
See the above article as an anchor point for 2Gb issues on various
  platforms.
  Eg: Solaris 2Gb issue [BUG:774252]

How did OTS come up with the idea that your using Pro*C? This part of the
alert
log tells me that there is a problem with a parallel query process namely
either
p000 or p001. My first stem would be to look in the trace file(s)
specified and
see what SQL statements are being processed. There may be a corrupt
block
running around somewhere. Also did you send these files to OTS when you
created
the tar? They exist primarily for OTS's purposes.

 Hi gurus!

I am receiving the following bug in my Alert Log.
Oracle says it may be because of using PRO*C which
 we are not using all.

Please review the contents and if someone has any idea

Re: ora 704 --- URGENT!!!!!

2001-02-07 Thread djordjej

If you have support you should probably call them.

This is what I found on Metalink as well:

Explanation:
This is a general error reported at startup when there is some
problem during processing of bootstrap information.

There should be an accompanying error/s.

 Diagnosis:
 - See the accompanying error/s for more information.

 - Shutdown abort the instance and clean up any OS structures
used by the instance. Eg: Ensure there is no shared memory,
   semaphores etc.. left lying around

 - Retry the startup.

 - If the error persists follow up on the accompanying errors
(Eg: block corruption etc.. could cause this.)

Re: Patchset installation

2001-02-05 Thread djordjej

When I am installing the patchset I am giving oracle the new home. For
example:

1. My home is /u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.4
2. I copy all the tree under the home to the new home:
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.4.4
3. For the patch installation session I set:
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.4.4, and install the patch, relink,
... . All the linked libreries are with respect to the new home. In the
meantime the running instance has no idea of the new home, but uses
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.4.
4. When I am done with 3, I shutdown the instance change
ORACLE_HOME==/u01/app/oracle/product/8.0.4.4 and start the instance.

This is very similar to installing a new database version distribution
parallel to the existing one, which is a standard procedure, and one of the
features of the OFA standard.

  Hi,

I am looking into installing a patchset with minimum downtime. Standard
Oracle procedure for installing a patchset is:
  1. Shutdown the database
  2. Install the patch binaries, relink.
  3. Startup database (restrict ?), run the cat* scripts.

I wanted to change the procedure so that instead of having the database
 down
during the patch install and relinking, prior to the procedure I copy
the
binaries to a newly created home, install the patch on the new home,
 relink
the binaries under the new home, and than just restart the database from
 the
new home. To make sure that everything is OK, I would postpone the cat*
scripts run, for a later time, once I am sure that everything is OK. If
something goes wrong I haven't changed anything in the database, and I
can
just go back to the old home.

Has anybody tried this ? What is the significance of cat* scripts. As
 far
as I understand them, oracle does not use them and do not care about
them,
only some apps might break (most of all DBA type of scripts).

  Thanks.
