Answer 1: RMAN keeps track of increasing SCNs of any changing datablock within the datafile being backedup. Hence not much redo. Answers to other questions have been posted by others. RE: Upgrade from 8.1.7.4 to 9.2.0.1.0
Oracle 7 to Oracle 8 involves changes to the rowid itself. Hence the tablespaces are part of migration. For higher releases , the changes take place to the system , rbs tablespaces (if i recall correctly) and the user tablespaces are not touched by migration.
