HP-UX 11.0 mount parameter mincache
We have HP-UX 11.0 and are having IO problems. Oracle and HP say to set a mount parameter mincache=direct. We currently have it set to mincache=tmpcache. But when we set it to direct the db slows down to the point it's unusable. HP said to increase the db_block_buffers, so we increased then from 30k to 130k (8k block). That's 1GB. The db was a little more usable but still sucked. So we set the buffers back to 30k and reset mincache back to tmpcache. Now the db is again usable, but we there's still something wrong with IO. sar reports WIO at +80%. ORacle says that should be close to 0%. We are using HP's LVM (resold veritas) and cooked files. Any ideas? thanks __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. 6i FormServer socket or http
We have apps 11.5.6 and FS 6i patch 8 (6.0.8.17.1) and we have been using mode=socket because Oracle recommended that. Now we have another Oracle support guy suggesting mode=http because we have some users on our WAN in europe who are saying the system is kind of slow. Oracle says switching to http mode will make the WAN users much happier. Does anyone have any recommendations before we start testing? __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Temp table space
An Oracle consultant made the following comment about our 11i db: You need to drop the current temp Tablespace and recreate it using temp files, uniform 1MB extents. We have a TEMP tablespace created by create tablespace TEMP temporary. What does he want us to do differently? thanks __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Cheap table lock?
Is Select ... For Update; a cheap table lock? It seems whenever code uses this statement all the records in the cursor are locked until the cursor is closed. __ Do you Yahoo!? DBA work load
I'm trying to justify hiring another DBA, and management wants more justification. I have put together the usual reasons, but they want Industry Standards, like how many Databases can one DBA manage. Or how many GB/DBA or endusers/DBA? Does anyone keep these kind of stats? thanks __ Do you Yahoo!?
