I don't remember the bug number but search on Metalink
and you will find it.
If I recall correctly, it's caused by the presence of comments (# lines)

2003-03-27 Thread Bjørn Engsig

I remember seing this with some specific versions of tkprof, but I
forgot all details.  I would recommend using tkprof from a new (8.1.7
or 9.2) release independent of the release that produced the trace
file.  In particular the 9.2 version is nice as it also reads and
understands the WAIT lines produced by 10046 level 8.

SQL*Plus core dump

2003-01-06 Thread Mark Richard
Dear List,

Apologies in advance for the long message, but the error messages are no
doubt significant to the problem.

As part of our testing procedures we kill SQL scripts (anonymous PL/SQL
blocks normally) during execution using the following:

 SQL> alter system kill session '18,44329';

 System altered.

Recently, however SQL*Plus is core dumping rather than politely reporting
session killed. The error given to screen is (The SP2-0642 message appears
hundreds of times, here are the last two):

 SP2-0642: SQL*Plus internal error state 2167, context 4294967294:2:0
 Unable to proceed
 SP2-0642: SQL*Plus internal error state 2167, context 4294967294:2:0
 Unable to proceed
 Segmentation Fault(coredump)
 $

The script is also being spooled to a file, which shows:

 ERROR:
 ORA-01012: not logged on

 ERROR:
 ORA-01012: not logged on

 SP2-0359: memory exhausted
 Error accessing package DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO
 ERROR:
 ORA-01012: not logged on

 SP2-0359: memory exhausted
 SP2-0359: memory exhausted

The all important version numbers are (all running on Solaris - both
database and SQL*Plus) :

 SQL*Plus: Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production on Tue Jan 7 11:46:35 2003

 Connected to:
 Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
 With the Partitioning option
 JServer Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production

Has anyone experienced SQL*Plus core dumping like this? Any advice would
be welcomed.

Thanks,
 Mark.

RE: Odd core dump - possibly listener related

2001-05-25 Thread Henry Poras

We have also seen trace and alert logs occasionally written to
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/logs instead of bdump. It is almost always a shutdown
abort/crash. Of course this isn't true for all aborts. Maybe when Oracle is
in a hurry it uses its default instead of the non-default init.ora
parameters.

Re: Odd core dump - possibly listener related

2001-05-25 Thread Jared Still

At a previous employer, if we chased down every core dump
we would never have time for anything else.

ORA-7445 almost always dumps core, and it's one of those
errors that can never be successfully eradicated, at least in
a large environment with many servers, many users and
many different versions of Oracle.

Re: Odd core dump - possibly listener related

2001-05-24 Thread Ruth Gramolini

Lisa,
I would at least do a stack trace to find out what is causing the core
dumps. Then you will be able to see if they are really benign. We have core
dumps that happened in 8.0.6 that OWS said would go away with 8.0.6.3.
This was the reason I needed to apply the patch. The developers didn't like
them happening with their application...and I had other reasons to apply the
patch that they didn't care about..so

Odd core dump - possibly listener related

2001-05-24 Thread Koivu, Lisa

Hello all,

My mini-me (aka
Junior DBA) noticed a core dump this morning.  Good, attention to
detail.  However, there's no unusual errors in the alert log for either
databases on this host and there's no errors in the listener log at all.
The core dump says something about pseudo cursor and references a port that
isn't dedicated to the listener.

Here's my take on
it:  The database is fine.  The listener is fine.  The app is
fine.  With nothing in the logs I have no idea where to look.  I don't
even know how this core dump ended up in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs (the default), my
core_dump_dest is set to a different directory.  Searching on metalink
returns nothing.

Mini-me (mini?
6'4") wants to chase this down.  I think it works, don't fix it.  The
occasional core dump is normal and there are a ton of other things to attend
to.  Does anyone disagree?

So my question is,
has anyone seen this before?  we are hp/ux 11.0,
8.1.6.2

Thanks everyone, and
au revoir.  I start a new job on Tuesday.

Infact, many modules of our application too used to
fail after this error message. However, after flushing
the shared pool, the problem was solved. Try and see,

All,

The oracle support rep came to the same conclusion. After a reboot the
database came back to life without error. I guess we will have to perform
some follow-up memory and hardware tests to try and find the root cause.

This sounds like a heap (memory) error. Check for system memory errors.
