Collaboration Suite Printers
A question for any of you using Collaboration Suite. I’ve gone through Enterprise Manager, and set up a new printer for my Files domain. How is that printer typically used? I had ass-u-me-d that once printers were set up, I would have a print option show up in Oracle Files, and I would be able to send documents to specific printers. But that has not been the case so far. I have searched Metalink for any pertinent documents, but I have not found any. I guess what I’m asking is this: If I set up my printer devices in OEM, what does it do for me? Brian - | Brian McGraw -+- Senior DBA | | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] | -
Collaboration suite Question
If anyone is using Oracle collaboration suite, could you tell me what hardware you recommend and/or are using? We expect around 1000 users and will probably use the mail, calendar and files. Specifically, what type of storage/server are you using for the storage infrastructure? Re: anyone use oracle collaboration suite?
hi i have done the installation of collaboration suite as part of some assessment.this was done about 6-7 months back. the issues - no support from oracle.no proper documentation.infact support is totally unaware what the product is all about. - installtion of three tiers ..complete software in two tiers and few lib files for one tier..and even if u decide these can coexist on abox it is mandotory that u have three different oracle homes. - creation of databases for infrastrucutre reporsitory are all hardcoded and make sure u have enough space on the filesystems. infact i would advise you to go with one huge disk to siffice this requirement. - i tried tinkering with the template file and stopped the installation in the middle when products were getting installed..well it messesup a lot of things and all errors are very cryptic and have been "cut and pasted" from an obsolete oracle mail product oracle had sometime before. i did go into the administration part in detail but installation was a pain. i believe that the mail, calendar and the file sharing were ok. but i had to do installation three times over a weekend to get it running by monday. you have to act dumb before the installer and let it do everything. i tried to be a bit smart of moving files etc..collaboration suite breaks.. a good documentation could surely help. hope this will help though not very encouraging thx sai[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I saw a presentation on this. ADMIN: Collaboration Suite mailing list?
Hi group -- I've been toying with starting a new mailing list for Oracle Collaboration Suite (OCS) users and administrators. It's a fairly new product and I haven't seen any mailing lists other than what is on OTN, so there might be a need. I realize that participation might be low as the list starts, but I think it will grow. Certainly, the dollar justification is becoming HUGE as compared with Exchange, and I think more and more companies are turning to OCS as a COTS solution. I would like some input (both pro and con) as to whether you think there is value in starting a new list. If you don't think it would be a good idea, I'd like to know why (you saw another mailing list already, you don't think there's much to talk about, this list is enough, etc). If you do think it is a good idea, I'd like to know if it is a mailing list you would join and whether you think it would be valuable. PLEASE SEND REPLIES TO ME ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) PRIVATELY, not to the list! I'll summarize to the list, but there's no point in having a bunch of "me too!" type replies go to the list. ;-) thanks! bruce -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.net -- Author: Bruce A. SQL Server if your file server happens to be of the M$ variety. Will SysAdmins also need to be DBA's? ;) Jared On Fri, 2003-08-22 at 00:39, Tanel Poder wrote: > Actually I'm a bit surprised, that OCS works that well for you. Re: Collaboration Suite
Actually I'm a bit surprised, that OCS works that well for you. My impression about Oracle products is that Oracle Server is the only Oracle server-type product which may work out-of-the-box. I've worked with iAS since v.2 and yes, E-Business suite as well. The worst experiences are with IFS (v.1.1) that crashed so hard we had to hack our data out of it and switch back to regular fileserver which I now know should be used for serving files anyway. That's why I didn't even take a look on OCS when it came out - I remember the InterOffice disaster too well.. But if several people say, especially here, that it works for you, I think it's time to check it out. Wonder if it'll run in test env with 512MB of RAM using Linux? Re: Collaboration Suite
Brian, We're using OCS Release 2 on Linux (RHAS2.1) internally (15 users). We also did a production install of OCS Release 2 on Linux RHAS2.1 for a customer in NJ (100 users). They are very happy and impressed with the OCS functionality, especially iMeeting. The price comparison to Exchange didn't hurt, either... :-) By the way, both of these installs were on a single Dell server, which is something that Oracle has not yet figured out how to do, apparently. The complicating issue is not collapsing everything onto a single server, which is pretty straightforward (as with Oracle E-Business Suites). Rather, it is more that a single-server install makes things more complicated from a security perspective, as you have to be much more specific about what ports are opened to the internet and which ports are not. As with Oracle E-Business Suites, OCS uses lots and lots of network ports, but E-Biz is usually a purely intranet app and rarely (if ever?) faces the big bad internet. Believe me, put a server on the internet and you *will* be hacked within 4 hours... For 500 users, you'd definitely want a two-server configuration anyway, so it's probably a moot point. Let me know if you'd like some HW sizing info? Hope this helps... -Tim on 8/20/03 2:49 PM, Brian Haas at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Hello all, > > We're looking at Oracle collaboration suite and I'm wondering if anyone here > is > using it? RE: Oracle Collaboration Suite Licensing.
Other than using the term collaboration, I don't see any mention of those being part of the Oracle Collaboration Suite. They sound more like add-ons for the standard Oracle Application eBusiness product line. > -Original Message- > From: DENNIS WILLIAMS [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 11:35 AM > To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L > Subject: RE: Oracle Collaboration Suite Licensing. > > > Ali, >This announcement may be of interest to you. > http://www.infoworld.com/article/03/06/24/HNoraclecollaboration_1.html > > Dennis Williams > DBA, 80%OCP, 100% DBA > Lifetouch, Inc. > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > -Original Message- > Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 10:35 AM > To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L > > > Ali, > > From previous discussion with Oracle on the subject. Brian and Michael, Try some of the ODTUG list-servers at ODTUG (http://www.odtug.com/subscrib.htm). 9iAS is discussed quite frequently (and not always fondly ;)) on the DEV2K list as well as some of the others such as the WEB and JAVA lists.
