Title: RE: OT_salary Well, what better could it be when I get a bus every 5 minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during off-peak ?? I have visited New Jersy and Richmond in the US and I have seen that it is very difficult to commute there if u dont have a car which is the reason getting a car remains the one of the priorities for anybody emigrating there. DBA salary differs depending on skill and location. I would have thought that mid-level DBA for non London/Scotland area is as you say £30-35K/annum. From contractor rates I would say lower in Scotland and London could range from £35-55K. Banks , city instititution may pay more but I am sure it is very hard getting in there. As for transport I have worked in Nottingham 6 months ago (for Logica) and I don't see the public transport system there any better than Leeds,Manchester,London etc. They are all pretty poor. Unfortunately the underlying transport infrastructure has been left underfunded and badly managed for much too long. RE: OT_salary
Title: RE: OT_salary I live in UK (Leeds) and frankly I would disagree with everything you have said (no offense intended!!). I have been to the UK a lot... as far south as Sandwich and Dover and up the east coast to Woodbridge, Beccles etc... also been to Scotland as far north as Ulapool. I have also lived in the US for the last 6 or 7 years in various places upstate NY, Michigan, Rhode Island and Connecticut. I would have to say that I would vote for the US as having the lower cost of living. Ah, the popular US misconception that the UK stops at London. :-)) The economy of the UK is extremely diverse and whereas the price of a meal or a pint varies little between London and Newcastle Quayside for example, the difference in the cost of property can be vast. The house I live in up in Northumberland cost me 110,000 quid and I have been assured by my house hunting colleages down south that a similar spec'd property down there would probably not see much ( and I mean not much)change out of half a million. I believe Nottingham (where Samir is working falls somewhere between the two but I would imagine is closer to the cost of living of the North). RE: OT_salary
Of course its a per annum salary. We DBAs would have been millionaires by now if that kind of a salary were paid monthly.and people would have flocked to the UK instead of the US :)). But then again, it is quite a comfy salary in the UK since the cost of living is low.
