RE: Off topic: Need ideas for 'Take your child to work' day 4/25
We had once a class visiting us, We asked the school to give us the names of the students with a little personal information like class, teacher's name, parent's name, address, phone, likes and dislikes, and picture. We created a small application, single database and encouraged the children to use it and find about their friends, add/edit what they like to. Not all but most of the students enjoyed it. Do not let the kiddo hit until you've reviewed what is typed on each line. Kudos for making the effort, although a DBA's day would probably create emotional scarring in young children... Yeah, and create a tablespace, with datafile - then create a table in that tablespace (with PK etc.) and create an index for the PK and any other fields that would warrant an index.. -Original Message- Sent: 05 April 2002 15:18 To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L 4/25 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > Our office is doing 'Take your child to work' day and the plan is for an > older child to shadow me for a little while as we do some simple Oracle dba > or development work. > > I'd really like to make this meaningful by having the child do a task that's > simpler (than optimizing all our procedures) but realistic (instead of being > relegated to the lunchroom to watch tv) with me for an hour or so. > > Has anyone ever done this? What about blocking locks use utllockt to show a "graphical" output of the waiters building up And you get to show the fun of alter system kill session to get rid of the blockers ! And get a demo of spotlight and show how much data goes back and forth or in the database for 2 different queries that bring back the same answer ie demonstrate efficient SQL Bruce Reardon -Original Message- Sent: Friday, 5 April 2002 14:58 To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L 4/25 What about some simple SQL statements? "Point-and-Click" GUI tools (like OEM) would be attractive but dangerous. How about showing them OEM on a Test Server (and ensure that OEM CANNOT connect to any other database) ? Show them the Tablespace Layout and draw an analogy with their cupboards/shelves at home. Show them the Instance Startup and Shutdown "traffic signal".
