It has advantages over v$object_usage in that is gives you an indication on how often indexes are used, rather than that they've been used. Although sampling and other factors may impact their accuracy, those indexes that have a very high ratio of logical reads to db block changes you know are highly used for "legitimate" index accesses, those closer to a 2-1 ratio are only being accessed mainly due to dml changes.
