Okay,
so burn it over 3 CDs and mail it to me :-)

Seriously, I would love to get a trial version just to play with at
home
I used
10.7 NCA and 10.7 SC and I kind of miss it.
Wanted
to try 11i - to see what has changed, etc.

Someone posted you could order a trial version of
this.
Is
that for real?

Thanks, Babette

Heh,
notice the phrase next to nothing. I didn't get it free but I got it for
about 28 pounds plus postage and handling. Compared to the price of ordering
up a standard product that's a fairly reasonable price.
Sorry if I wasn't very clear on that point.

I can not find them on Oracle web site.

2003-09-10 Thread Boivin, Patrice J
Someone on this list ordered me a CD Kit of the 10i Applications Suite, it's
52 CDs.

You may be able to order one from the OracleStore.

Two years ago I couldn't do that from the oracle.com site because they only
accepted U.S. States and Zip Codes... I called a 1-800 number they had
suggested for Oracle Canada. The person who answered didn't seem to know
what to do, it was the first time she had received a request for 10i CDs.

I contacted them later again, it went nowhere.

Finally, someone on the list ordered me a set, and I refunded him the
amount.

When I received the kit I realized what a behemoth the suite is, 52 CDs !!!

I think they're available on most hardware platforms now. I don't know how
many sites would back-order parts to replace CD drives but it's probably
worth specifying them for new kit.
I'd be interested in DVDs even if it's just for piloting new releases on
Linux at home.

For the record I think that a couple of the newer Sun boxes here have DVD
drives.

Linux can, and SUN can. I know that HP (HP-UX 11.0) can as well. I'm not
sure about the
IBM, but I suppose that they can do that too. You can get a DVD read-only
drive for $50
at CompUSA. Software can be found at http://www.linuxvideo.org.

 Tanel,
the 11.5.9 docs ask you to get in touch if you're interested

Someone on this list ordered me a CD Kit of the 10i Applications Suite,
it's
 52 CDs.

You may be able to order one from the OracleStore.

Two years ago I couldn't do that from the oracle.com site because they
only
accepted U.S. States and Zip Codes... I called a 1-800 number they had
suggested for Oracle Canada. The person who answered didn't seem to know
what to do, it was the first time she had received a request for 10i CDs.

I contacted them later again, it went nowhere.

Finally, someone on the list ordered me a set, and I refunded him the
 amount.

When I received the kit I realized what a behemoth the suite is, 52 CDs
!!!

Btw, I have sometimes used the unsupported

and seen a lot of DDL (altering tables, adding comments etc..). And every DDL
requires at least one commit, some even more. Thus if you see lots of log file
sync waits for your AutoPatch sessions you could reduce databasepatching
downtime noticeably using this parameter (the same goes for object
recompilation). But as soon your instance crashes you should restore from
backup, so this is the downside..
Actually, I'm not recommending anyone to use this
parameter, just want to say, sometimes I have reduced Apps patching and upgrade
downtime several to many hours using this ;)

Re: Oracle 11i

Heh,heh forget it, they are very different products - Collaboration Suite is
for e-mail, calendar sharing, messaging, file storing and conferencing.

Oracle E-Business Suite 11i is an integrated ERP, CRM, MFG, yadda-yadda
package, which doesn't help you with your e-mails or videoconferences, but
helps you out when you're a big very complex company and you want to
automate your processes in your company. (Well, that's the idea anyway).

You can't download 11i, you can order it for evaluation from Oracle, it's
about 50 CD (when the heck will they put it on DVD?), but you have to be a
fairly serious company for getting the eval.

Cheers,
Tanel.

Why yes I can: M-cow

Actually, the Dells area (Baraboo is a few miles south) is pretty nice if
you're an outdoorsy-type. Or if you just like to live in or near a town
that's one big waterpark (including the largest waterpark in the USA). It's
about 40 minutes from Madison and 5 minutes to complete privacy.

But of course, non-Wisconsinites will be required to drink beer, eat cheese,
drink beer, live and die with each Packers game, and drink beer like the
rest of us, der hey.

Re: * Oracle 11i DBA position in Wisconsin..

2002-09-13 Thread Cherie_Machler

Baraboo is in a fairly rural area more than an hour from Madison or from
Milwaukee. Neither of those cities are a vast metropolis.

Not everyone is keen to live in the country. Plus I would imagine that a
DBA job in this part of the country wouldn't pay a massive salary.
However, the cost of living in Baraboo should be very reasonable and
Wisconsin Dells is a beautiful area.

Raised on a Wisconsin farm and loves Wisconsin Dells and the Barnum
Bailey Circus Museum in Baraboo.
