ep,

Any idiot can see we're the freest country in the world!
Free to do what is expected, or get thrown in jail at a
rate exceeding most other "civilized" nations. Free to
subsidize tobacco and alcohol (and related deaths) and
throw "dangerous criminals" in jail for using cannabis.
Free to have almost the highest teenage pregnancy rate
in the world. Free to fight for your rights just as long
as your money lasts! Free to buy as much of whatever you
want until the money, environment, or patience of the
less fortunate runs out.

So much freedom, you could almost choke on it.

Come on, you commie, admit it: you just stay here for
the Burgers and Coca-Cola!

I strongly suspect you couldn't quote foreign aid figures if

ROFL!!! As if "a national vote" would make a difference!
Based on recent events, I could get the popular vote and

I'll be sure to pat myself on the back, Rocky.

Oh? Are you related to Dylan Klebold? Planning to lynch someone?
(That was in the paper, too. You might have missed it during your
Klan Rally. )

Tell me something, Rocky. Are you one of those guys who "proudly
fights for our freedom" as long as he agrees with you? Or, are
you the "onestep over the line, and POW!" vigilante justice type

Well, I have to go now, Rocky. I have a bunch of fish to shoot in

RE: RE: job offer from SAUDI ARABIA

2001-05-19 Thread Christopher Spence

Interesting topic but I will make a brief comment.
(Still wondering how this became of job offerings but here goes)

1. Guns don't kill people, people do.
2. Goverment is too easy on criminals (at least in US)
3. Why can't we all just get along?
4. If we all just got along, imagine the reduction in taxes for not needing
an army, navy, air force, special forces, and nucular weapons. We all be
rich! Now wouldn't that be nice.

Now considering we are all human, and for some time there will still be
humans on this planet, I will have a hand gun within proximity of my domicle
at all times, although I find no need to talk about it or run around
flashing it around.

Christopher,

RE: RE: job offer from SAUDI ARABIA

2001-05-22 Thread Boivin, Patrice J

I am reading a book now, called Habits of the Heart, that gives a historical
perspective on different philosophical streams within American society.

One of them is the utilitarian freedom one, where everyone should have the
freedom to say or do whatever they like, as long as it doesn't impact other
people. The problem is, there isn't much debate about what people want to
do with that freedom, many people just end up going home and watching tv
because they don't have any goals or purpose in life.

Someone in the 1800s noticed that this was becoming a trend, and he
expressed misgivings because there is no social discourse, he saw then that
some people who held lucrative positions just went to work, earned money,
and went home.

Before that trend appeared, people were mostly self-employed farmers,
wheelrights, whatever, and the town/community was the focus. Because a
business owner could only be successful if the townspeople like him as a
person, if the owner did good things for the town overall, etc. etc. We can
argue that that no longer exists, most towns now are just bedroom
communities and people no longer work in the same town their house is in.
They commute. There was a down side to this town-centric view of things of
course (there are always good points and bad points), the chief one being
the conformity that was imposed on people. Salem comes to mind...

Anyway, maybe one day Oracle will release a patch for these problems, or we
will be Oracle citizens instead of country-bound.

society.

One of them is the utilitarian freedom one, where everyone should
have the
freedom to say or do whatever they like, as long as it doesn't
impact other
people. The problem is, there isn't much debate about what people
want to
do with that freedom, many people just end up going home and
watching tv
because they don't have any goals or purpose in life.

Someone in the 1800s noticed that this was becoming a trend, and he
expressed misgivings because there is no social discourse, he saw
then that
some people who held lucrative positions just went to work, earned
money,
and went home.

Before that trend appeared, people were mostly self-employed
farmers,
wheelrights, whatever, and the town/community was the focus.
Because a
business owner could only be successful if the townspeople like him
as a
person, if the owner did good things for the town overall, etc. etc.
We can
argue that that no longer exists, most towns now are just bedroom
communities and people no longer work in the same town their house
is in.
They commute. There was a down side to this town-centric view of
things of
course (there are always good points and bad points), the chief one
being
the conformity that was imposed on people. Salem comes to mind...

Anyway, maybe one day Oracle will release a patch for these
problems, or we
will be Oracle citizens instead of country-bound.

: )

Er, this does not reflect the views of my employer, etc. etc.
