There are major tech stack and schema differences between 11.5.4 and 11.5.8. All I can say is follow the maintainence pack release notes and pull all the info you can from metalink. Depending on the size of your installation, plan on at least a two day effort, more if you have multiple languages installed, a UTF8 character set database, on a Windows platoform, etc. Never do this on a production system without performing this migration on a test instance (on a separate server) several (many) times. I wanted to do this at my last job. I called WWS and was told it was their best recommendation to put it in a new home. They would not support installing into the old home and if you have problems, you are on your own.
