Hi,

I wonder if I can get a copy of your utility.

Here is what it does so far:

first off you HAVE TO GET a versio of strings that is NOT brain dead,
meaning it has to be able to handle extremely long lines, no 1024/2048
max line length, you can get free source code for a better strings
command from gnu look for binutils package.

ok that is covered:

it handles:

1.  sequences
2.  analyze
3.  comment on
4.  grant
5. create table(yes normal, hash and range partitioned, no composite
yet)
6. regular, bitmap and unique indexes
7.  alter table
8.  create synonym.

Its far from done but it works pretty much for what i needed.

Its alpha software at best and for a small database, its almost easier
to use OEM and reverse the few tables needed.

If there is interest, i'll upload what I have done to my website(its not
the oracle-dba.com one, its the "the-testas.net" one.

drop me a private email(not to the list).

I wrote a VBA script run from Access that will parse the CREATE INDEX and
CREATE TABLE statements from the indexfile and also insert new storage
parameters based upon the results found in a modified copy of DBA_TABLES and
DBA_INDEXES. I used it once. But basically points out some need for Oracle
to improve export and import. I should easily be able to have specific sets
of DDL go to specific files if I want. - E

As an 8.0 to 8.i migration tool, Oracle provided a checklist for upgrades
(Metalink note 133920.1). This note has a couple of scripts that do a full
export, then awk the dmp into a somewhat reasonable script.

You'd need to play with it a bit to get preciely what you need, but I
believe all the pieces might be there . . .

Maybe this would work?

Far from perfect, it mostly massages the table definitions
into something manageable.

use it like:

imp userid=scott/tiger indexfile=ddl.txt file=expdat.dmp
indexfile_filter < ddl.txt > ddl.sql

Jared

--

#!/usr/bin/perl

=pod

indexfile_filter

create usable SQL from 'imp indexfile=myfile.sql'

e.g. indexfile_filter < myfile.sql > newfile.sql

=cut

my $ddl = undef;

while(<>) {

chomp;
# don't remove quotes!
# they are your friend for odd object names
#s/\"//g;   # remove quotes
s/^REM\s+//;# uncomment

next if /^\s*$/; # blank line
next if /^CONNECT/;

# process current sql if defined and new command starting

if ( /^CREATE|ALTER/ ) {
if ( $ddl ) {
sqlFormat(\$ddl);
print "$ddl\n\n";
$ddl = '';
}
}

$ddl .= $_;
}

sqlFormat(\$ddl);
print "$ddl\n";

sub sqlFormat {

my ($sqlRef) = @_;

#

my $parsed = ${$sqlRef};

if ( ${$sqlRef} =~ /^CREATE\sTABLE/ ) {
$parsed =~ s/
^([\w\s\d\"\.\$]+) # match to first paren
(\(.+\){1}?)# get column definitions
(.+)# the junk in
the middle
(\([\w\s\d\$\"]+\)) # last set of parens
(.*)$   # to the end
of the line
/undef/x; # can replace with junk
# as
we have parsed text

my @sqlParts = ( $1, $2, $3, $4, $5 );

#$sqlParts[0] = ${$sqlRef};
for $i ( 0 .. $#sqlParts ) {
if ( $sqlParts[$i] =~ /,/ ) {

Mohammed,
  No, I have not found a solution for it. IBM-AIX does that too. I have
several tables with partitions, and the ddl for it is never complete, if I
used strings. So I use it for things that do not have long SQL statements.
For others, I use scripts or 3rd party tools.

RE: export user definitions

Kirti,
I found problem with strings on HP-UX. If create table line is long it cuts
it. In Oracle Financials create tables scripts are very long and while
converting dmp file to txt file it cuts a lot of stuff. Do you know any work
around for this problem. I never observed this problem with NCR UNIX.

Rajesh,
  I am afraid indexfile option will not show such information.
  If using exported dump file is opted for such information, then it has to
be extracted using either 'strings' command (UNIX) or by importing using the
show=y log= option. The logfile will then have to be edited to fish
out the required information, which may need quite a bit of editing to get a
working SQL. I like the 'strings' better for such tasks.

what kind of options you use in 'strings' command? There is one option
like 'strings -a | -'. When I tried this option on dump file, it didn't
work.

Thanks in advance!

Someone asked this just a couple of weeks ago. That
script will recreate a user.

Take a look through the archives at www.fatcity.com for this.

Recreating the roles is a simple exercise I'll leave to you.

RE: export user definitions

2001-09-10 Thread Rachel Carmichael

nope, not using the indexfile definition you won't. That way all you'll see
are table and index create statements.

if you do a full import, using show=y and log= you will get a file
that contains ALL statements that would recreate your database. They aren't
particularly readable as oracle breaks lines in the middle of words, but
it's a start.

or you could just write SQL statements to generate SQL... using the
dba_users, dba_ts_quotas, dba_roles, dba_tab_privs and dba_sys_privs
views.

Rajesh,
 I am afraid indexfile option will not show such information.
 If using exported dump file is opted for such information, then it has
to
be extracted using either 'strings' command (UNIX) or by importing using
the
show=y log= option. The logfile will then have to be edited to
fish
out the required information, which may need quite a bit of editing to
get a
working SQL. I like the 'strings' better for such tasks.

Do a full export ( without data, rows=n ) and import with indexfile
option. You can see all the information including users.
