RE: LSNRCTL Password
Looking at the listener.ora that behaviour makes perfect sense. The tcp/ip host and port are part of the description. If your group id's for dba are the same on both servers the command would be accepted by the listed host as valid. RE: LSNRCTL Password
If password protection is being used, you must set the password before you can issue the STOP command. When using passwords for the listener, you cannot issue the STOP command at the operating system level because the password can only be set within the lsnctrl utility. There are two types of password mechanisms in lsnctrl. 1. Unencrypted and 2. U guessed it right - Encrypted. Here is some theory: In the listener.ora file add this line: PASSWORDS_PRODUCTION_LISTENER = (password1, password2) U can add as many passwords as u like. U can use any one of them to control the listened. Now, a word about the encrypted passwords: At the prompt LSNRCTL CHANGE_PASSWORD This will prompt you to enter a new password. Now, You have an encrypted password. TO STOP THE LISTENER, U HAVE TO MANUALLY ENTER OR TYPE IN THE PASSWORD IF YOU ARE USING ENCRYPTED PASSWORD. However, if u are using an unencrypted password, then just creat a script file to contain these lines: set password password1 ( I am not sure of this syntax - check this one) stop listener --- and at the OS level, u can just say lsnctrl @Script_File Correct me if I am wrong.
