Laura,
We use a particular id/passwd to load the data using sqlloader. The xx.PAR file
contains the userid and password along with the connect string to connect to the
database.
ex:
sqlldr parfile=path/name.PAR
name.par displays
Userid=loadit/loadpasswd@connect string
other commands...

Has someone changed the password or parfile if you use that method?
can you run the sqlloader with a xx.PAR file and use the dba/passwd@connect and test
the command string?

  Any ideas?

Laura,

One idea, select username and status from dba_user. I would guess that
should work, but ...

Another thought, you say you can connect via sqlplus. Is your sqlplus
connection of the form user/password@sid or just user/password? If it
is the latter, your environment vairable ORACLE_HOME (echo $ORACLE_HOME
on Unix) decides what db to connect to and could be pointing you to a
different db.

Thank you for your reply. The user does have DBA rights and also owns
the
table that is being referenced. If it was a table rights issue I would
think I would have gotten 'table or view does not exist' message. I
don't
think it is even getting connected to the database.

Laura,

The username that you are trying to use, does this username own the
table
that is to be loaded, or does this username have DBA privileges?

Even though you can connect via sqlplus and/or svrmgr to a session, this
does not mean that you will be able to load data into any table that you
desire.

Hi Roland,

Try using the DECODE statement rather than TRANSLATE:

BUT_OMS "DECODE(:BUT_OMS, '!','99','?','No Info',:BUT_OMS)",

The above says:

Ifthe value of BUT_OMS='!', change it to '99',
elsif the value of BUT_OMS='?', change it to 'No Info',
else
  insert the value provided.

Hope this helps

Hi,

it comes already with Oracle.
Just try sqlldr at the command line.
You can actually find it in Oracle's bin directory.
For a manual, see the Oracle Utilities Guide, it explains SQL Loader,
Export and Import.

Roland,

Try this in your control file:

 column1 "replace(:column1, '?', '0')" ,
 column2 "replace(:column2, '?', '0')" ,

This will work only with the conventional path.

You can't. You can, however, do one of two things:
a) create a top level shell scripts which will first call a pl/sql procedure to
delete the rows then call sqlldr.
or
b) if you are only deleting all the rows in the table, use either the replace
(which deletes everything in the target table) or truncate (which truncates the
target table) options in your sqlloader control file.

SQLLOADER allows you to APPEND, INSERT, REPLACE, or TRUNCATE at table that you are
loading data into. Read the latest manual about the Control file and placing the
options in the proper location.
We use the "truncate" option on one of our large files that gets loaded with fresh
data each day. Works great.

RE: Sqlloader question

2003-09-11 Thread Scott Canaan
The way I handled a similar situation was to create a default SQL*Loader
file with something recognizable in the place that you want to do the
substitution (in your case, the infile filename). Then, I wrote a shell
script that created the correct filename and copied the default
SQL*Loader file to the one that was going to be run, substituting the
created name for the default name. In my case, I used it to determine
which partition should be loaded, but the concept should still work. I
used sed to do that:

sed "6s/partition()/partition(`echo $IN_DATE_FMT`)/g"
em_contact_hist_ld.orig
 > em_contact_hist_ld.ctl

In the script, this was followed by a call to sqlldr with the control
file em_contact_hist_ld.ctl.

Hallo,

Anyone whom could tell me if it is in an sqlloader possible to write for
instance this if you dont know the exactly name of file.
infile '/d31/datafiler/sema/incoming/konkurrenter.*'

If there are going to be files with different extensions fo rinstance
the first time a file is going to be inserted will be konkurrenter.txt.1
and the next time the file will have the name konkurrenter.txt.2 etc.

How should I handle this?

RE: Sqlloader question

2003-09-12 Thread David Scott
Roland,

There are 2 techniques you can use. The first is what I call a 'dynamic
control file' - other posters have given you examples of that one, using
sed.

The next is create a 'loop loader'; essentially a script file that fires off
sqlldr for each loadable file. Here's an overly simple example:
export FILESPEC=/d31/datafiler/sema/incoming/konkurrenter.*
for FILENAME in $( ls ${FILESPEC} )
do
  sqlldr ${USER-PW} control=${CTL} data=${FILENAME}
log=${LOGPATH}/${FILENAME}.log
done

Both techniques are explained in my IOUG paper "SQL*Loader CAN Do That!". A
Windows example is also given. If you can't get to the IOUG web site and
would like a copy of the paper, send me an email.

RE: sqlloader tuning

2002-06-26 Thread Seefelt, Beth

Ravi,

You can't use sql functions in the control file with direct=true. You
can do a direct load, and then run a sql script on the loaded data to
make changes. Sometimes the performance gains from the direct load make
that worthwhile.

Set bindsize=rows*rowlength where rows is the number of rows you want to
load before each commit, rowlength is the length of the records in the
flat file.

To see if you selected appropriate values, run a load of 1 record and
generate a log file -

sqlldr rows=2 bindsize=500 load=1 log=load.log

Check the log to see if you sized appropriately

Space allocated for bind array:4999560 bytes(10245 rows)
Read buffer bytes: 500

Adjust accordingly - bindsize = 2*(4999560/10245) = 976

sqlldr rows=2 bindsize=976 load=1 log=load.log

Space allocated for bind array:976 bytes(2 rows)
Read buffer bytes: 976

HTH,

Beth

Just a stab here...

Check the .bad files to see if you are getting any data rows kicked out due
to errors. If so, you might be exceeding the ERRORS parameter by the time
you finish the third file.

Hi List,
I have another problem.
I have a process that loads multiple (~ 20 ) files through sqlloader. It
works fine on other servers. There is this one server that is giving me a
hard time. It loads 3 files and then stops. I commented out the third call
to sqlloader thinking may be there is something wrong with a third text
file. It loaded 3 files again and stopped on the forth one.
There is nothing in alert log (no errors). Also, there is enough space on
the drive where the logs are going.
Oracle 7.3.4 on NT.
If anyone has any idea please let me know...

My impression is the ERRORS parameter is set for each single load not number
of loads.
No, there is no bad file. Thanks David.

Re: sqlloader stops

2001-08-08 Thread Yosi Greenfield

So again I ask, how about running something while running your
batched loads, so you can see - and even maybe let us know - what
it's getting stuck on. You may even find that it's got NO sql session
running, and the problem is in your batch process.

That really sounds like your next step in debugging. Check it out, it
might help.

Have a look at the section in sql loader on "applying  SQL to fields" in theSLQ Loader documents
else
Is it possible for you to run the data through a Perl script to alter tha data before invoking sqlloader

I need to load a text format file into my database using sqlloader.  The
table I am loading into contains a special code column  9 positions long
with a following format ##--###--## (note dashes in between).  Dashes are
being stored in the database! (don't ask me why :-)  ).  My input file data
for that column comes in straight text  ( no dashes, of course ).  It is 7
positions long.
Is there a way to somehow input dashes using control file while loading
data?  I've looked 'concatenate' sqlloader command.  It is not going to take
care of my need.
Thank you to everyone who replies.  Have a safe a joyful new year.

RE: sqlloader question

2001-12-31 Thread Mercadante, Thomas F

Lyuda,

Did you get an answer for this? You can try using the SUBSTR command to
read the 7 char data string and rebuild it into something longer like:

col_dat  "substr(:col_seq,1,2) || '--' || substr(:col_seq,3,3) || '--' ||
substr(:col_seq,6,2)"

Hope this helps

RE: sqlloader question

2001-07-03 Thread Yosi

Lyuda,

According to the good ol' doc, when you use a direct
load with the ROWS param, Loader will count the rows
it's building into blocks, and 'save' the blocks when
each time ROWS is reached.

I've used ROWS in direct loads, and it worked as
advertised. The loads were still fast, and data
was saved at the number of ROWS specified.

There is a difference between a 'save' during a
direct load with ROWS, and a COMMIT during a
conventional load with ROWS. According to the doc,
the only difference is that during a direct load,
any indexes are marked unusable. If the load
crashes, 'saved' rows will still be there, and
you're indexes will need to be recreated.

(You're indexes would need to be recreated anyway
if a direct load crashes. Just that if you use ROWS,
whatever's been saved so far is saved.)

Hope this helps somewhat,

Yosi

Re: sqlloader question

2001-07-03 Thread Jonathan Gennick

ROWS takes on a slightly different semantic meaning
depending on whether your load is direct-path or
conventional, but the practical effect is pretty much the
same. For a conventional path load, ROWS specifies the
number of rows for the bind array, which ends up being the
number of rows loaded between commits. For a direct-path
load, ROWS specifies the number of rows to read from the
input file before saving them to the database. The semantics
of commit don't apply to direct-path load: for example, triggers don't
fire. Specifying ROWS in conjunction with DIRECT will NOT
cause your load to use the conventional path. Saving at the
end of a direct-path load (the default) is best
performance-wise, but the tradeoff is that if the load
fails, you get to do it ALL over again. Specifying a value
for ROWS puts a limit on the amount of the load that you
will need to redo in the event of a failure. It's all a
tradeoff.

2001-09-21 Thread Ken Janusz

Get yourself a copy of Oracle SQL*Loader by Gennick & Mishra, O'Reilly
Books.

I reviewed the discussion of it in Ch 8 of the book.
It looks like you need to script a Function and then reference the Function
name in the Control File.

Hope this helps.

It's not to simple so you need to get the book.

List,
 Oracle 7.3.4
Using SqlLoader I load a table with 5 columns of data. I would like to be
able to have column 4 be the value of (col3 * .07). I have RTFM and other
books but it seems that you are not allowed to perform calculations during
the load except the date functions.
Am I correct in my understanding?

Control file info:

Load data
Append
Into table tab1
trailing nullcols
( col1 terminated by "," ,
 col2 terminated by "," "TO_DATE(:col2,'MMDD')",
 col3 terminated by "," ,
 col4 terminated by "," ,

Hi,

You can use the same with little modification. Since if there is more no. of
columns, then "terminated by" is more headache.

Load data
infile *
Append
Into table tab1
fields terminated by ','
trailing nullcols
( col1 , col2 , col3 , col4 ":col3*.07", col5)
begindata
123,20010920,20,30,35
123,20010920,20,30,35
123,20010920,20,30,35

Try using the DECODE statement rather than TRANSLATE:

BUT_OMS "DECODE(:BUT_OMS, '!','99','?','No Info',:BUT_OMS)",

The above says:

Ifthe value of BUT_OMS='!', change it to '99',

else
  insert the value provided.

Hope this helps

shouldn't that be: "DECODE(:KAMPANJTYP_ID,'?','98','!','97', :KAMPANJTYP_ID)" ?

Try using the DECODE statement rather than TRANSLATE:

The above says:

Ifthe value of BUT_OMS='!', change it to '99',

Hello everyone,
I am having a problem with sqlloader version 8.1.7.4 on HP-UX. I am trying
to load a 13mb file that does not contain carriage returns. When I run it
in
sqlloader I receive the following:
SQL*Loader-500: Unable to open file (/usr/local/bell_logix/tax/SEQMAST.dat)
SQL*Loader-555: unrecognized processing option

But when I run the same file using the same control file with sqlloader
7.3.4 connecting to the same database it runs fine.
I have opened a tar with Oracle but results have been disappointing. It is
probably something simple, but could someone please help me?

2002-07-01 Thread Alexandre Gorbatchev

Roland,
Looks like your table run out of space and cannot be extended. The
workaround - pre-create table bigger (that's better) or set max extents
higher.
Strange that Loader complains about input file. It went crazy probably.
You don't need TRAILING NULLCOLS if you have all columns in each record
defined. Loader's suggestion "use TRAILING NULLCOLS" is errorprone and
stupid even when the problem is with row structure.

RE: SQLLOADER - please help

2002-07-01 Thread Long . Nguyen

The error message indicates that the current maxextents value for table IMP_NIELSEN is
20 and this number of extents had been reached during the load. Since there was still
more data to load and Oracle tried to get to the next extent but
could not since it had already reached the max value.

Ask the table owner or DBA to change the maxextents value for the table to a large
value.

you don't put it in the control file. When you run sqlldr, just as you have
control= you add log= and it will write to the
logfile

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with sqlloader not being able to finish a large
load. It tries to load between 1 and 2 millions records. Sometime during
the load it just dies. I see an attempt to create a log file but the file
size remains 0 bytes. It remains 0 size until the next day when new process
kicks off. The described scenario occurs day after day. It is a cron job
kicked from a batch file running multiple loads simultaneously. There are
two particular loads that die every day...
Anyone has any idea?
Thank you for your help

RE: sqlloader process dies

2001-07-31 Thread Kevin Lange

The items below are pure speculation :

Do you see any error messages in anything like the alert log signifying a
possible problem on the database ??? Tablespace full, temp space full,
rollback segments ?? etc ??

Or . maybe an outside process like a backup coming thru and killing the
datbase ??

Or maybe a cleanup process coming thru on the OS thinking that the job
is a runaway because its been running so long and kills it ??

Why don't you spool the output of the job to a file someplace and try to
find out where the failure is occuring ??

Title: RE: Sqlloader on VSAM file

I do the same thing here at my shop and the record I download from a vsam file is 3574 in length.  When I view the download in the .txt format it is wrapped just like what your records look like below.  However, a new record does start on a new line, and it looks like yours does the same thing.  In your .ctl member just treat the record as if were not wrapped.  It will work.

2002-07-01 Thread Jack van Zanen

Hi,

Not used SQLLOADER much but it seems that your controlfile says there
should be a column named month_distr_w that is not in your data.
How to fix it:
If your sure the column is in the data check your controlfile for other
syntax errors. If the column is not in the data than the answer is given in
the error message (trailing nullcols)

RE: sqlloader reserved word is column name

2001-06-05 Thread Kevin Lange

Yes.The manual states that you can use SQLLDR control words as column
names if you enclose them in Double Quotes. If you do this you must
remember to make the column names in UPPER CASE. So, to use a column name
of PARTITION, say "PARTITION".

Try placing the column name within quotes. For example:
