It involves *OS (like Linux),* Networking, Services and Applications, Libraries, User Interface, programming language *C AND Java*). Provide options like modularization of code to reduce inter-dependency and dynamic loading if needed. The person should know how to model the performance and then improve. · Know well *Java’s JVM* (Java Virtual Machine) code and be able to tune its performance by changing its architecture if needed, including memory management, CPU management, garbage collection algorithm, and thread interaction and communication efficiency. · The person should know well the *VOIP protocol*, media (*audio, video*) processing and buffer management and process interaction. · The person while be a specialist, should also be a generalist in that he can support wide-range of customer escalations to our IP phones, from lower layer issue to upper layer problem. Know standards at each layer like *PoE, Ethernet, QoS, TCP, UDP, RTP, RTCP, ARP, DHCP, HTTP/S, SIP, SCCP/SKINNY et al.* · In general our phones have relatively limited Hardware power, but yet we need to make sure they function as fast possible in responding to user interaction like making a call, transferring a call, pick up a call, even there is network latency and congestion. · I think this needs to be a quite senior person, with lots of hands on experience on embedded system where a millisecond delay is a huge delay.
