"The orchid tree at Daniel Stowe Botanical garden features... hybrids but
there are two... rare species...

l[L]aelia rubescens, or Flor de Jesu[s], which is native to Central
America. It grows in deciduous forest... it gets sunlight and rain during
the growing season and more warm and dry conditions in the offseason.
... the flowers are... at their best for three days. They are white with
lavender edging and a dark purple in the middle.

... the tiger orchid [species name ?]... The flowers... fairly large...
resembles a bird in flight.
The flower was first discovered in Guatemala City growing in ravines. There
it would get shade and moisture during the growing season and dry
conditions in the offseason...
about 50 degrees at night and 70 degrees during the day."

For those who may not know, this school was immortalized in Sophronitis
esalqueana by Blumenschein in 1973, originally as L. esalqueana. It is one of
the
rupicolous group, and has been use in hybridizing.
