[OGD] AW: Orchids Digest, Vol 7, Issue 99
From: Olaf Gruss Subject: Orchids Digest, Vol 7, Issue 99 from Viateur[OGD] what is the name of that hybrid / or is it a species ? 1965 Kim Il Sung came to an official visit to Indonesia. As a present President Sukarno named an orchid as Kimilsungia. He used the name for a cross between Dendrobium Ale Ale Kai and Dendrobium Pompadour. This cross was made and registered officially as Dendrobium Clara Bundt by Carl Bundt from Makassar, Sulawesi, in the January of 1964. 10 years later plants of this cross came to Korea and were produced in masses. They were shown in different exhibitions especially exhibitions of the Kimjongilia Federation. So the name Kimjonilia is only a name, accepted only in North-Korea, the official name fort his beautiful cross is Dendrobium Clara Bundt. Subject: [OGD] Paphiopedilum sangii so-called forma ayubiianum Dear Peter, the discussion is really curious. The name var. ayubianum or ayubii was never used officially, it was a working title for a planned description 5 years ago. But we decided to wait with an official description in the hope to get more informations about, perhaps to see also more plants. I don't know who have used the name then for this plant, but it is nothing more then a (trade)name for a perhaps regional form of Paph. sangii. Perhaps in a discussion the name was used but nothing more. When you have doubts about this plant and need more pictures of the plant, then ask me. I could take many pictures of, perhaps then you can decide if it is. AW: Orchids Digest, Vol 7, Issue 17 - Subject: [OGD] Paph sangii
Subject: [OGD] Paph sangii Dear Steve, there is not so a great difference in the plant between the typical Paph. sangii and the so named but not officially described forma ayubianum. The plant is normally a little bit smaller and a bit greyish. The typical difference you will find in the smaller inflorescense and in the flower. The petals are more horizontal an deep coloured. I will send you a picture of. Is there a way to distinguish an unflowered Paph sangii from Paph sangii f. ayubiianum? Should I just resign this to variability rivaling Neofinetia falcata? Subject: [OGD] Modern Phrag Hybrids: Books/Publications? From: marianne.fleurimont [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello evryone, especially Marianne, also when there is no actual book about the genus and the hybrids of the genus Phragmipedium, you can find pictures of all species in the spezial issue of The Orchid Digest Vol 67 (4). There you can find also many pictures of the modern hybrids with Phragmipedium besseae and others. Also very interesting for you would be te articles about Phragmipedium hybrids in the journal of The German Orchid Society 'Die Orchidee'. In the last years around 15 articles were published with around 200 pictures of the crosses. The last was published this year in the issue 2 about the new primary hybrids of besseae, besseae forma flava and dalessandroi. Also an article about the hybrids with Phrag. fscheri was published. Reply to Paph. crosses - Orchids Digest, Vol 6, Issue 405 Dear Marty, there is no cross registered between Paph. supardii and Paph. praestans Normally you must look for Paph. glanduliferum, because praestans will by accepted by Registrar only as glanduliferum. In the future you can look also at page of the Royal Horticultural Society adress is http://www.rhs.org.uk/research/registration_orchids.asp Best greetings from Bavaria Olaf Gruss ___ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids
