You can also look into "Solarization" rather than baking or steaming to kill snail eggs, and a multitude of other unwanted things. All it takes is a week of bright sunshine and some clear plastic. Are you going to bake the bark?  I understand it kills weed seed too.  
Process batches in 13x9 inch pans at 325 for about 20-30 minutes, stirring 
occasionally.  Yum!  You probably don't have to go as high as 325, anything 
over 212 (boiling) would kill a snail egg.
