They instead grasp at straws, like the few maverick papers that appear, to support their views (based on either vested interests, politics, or misunderstanding of science). The science involved in climate change makes it quite clear why Russia and the other northern regions will experience colder temperatures as the climate changes. This has to do with changes in ocean salinity and currents. Observations have been recently made that corroborate this. As the orchids we love move up the mountainsides to escape climate change and then finally disappear (more than they already are from habitat destruction) people like you will suddenly be scratching their heads and realizing just who the wackos are. ** Start the year off right. Re: [OGD] global cooling
References please. It would be nice to read something like this for a change. But well, I have red literature that prooved house-gnomes did actually exist once, so why not? (Yes, true, they did..) But to bad, I had hoped for a Dendrobium kingianum to survive outside in my garden once. It did last winter, but it's a goner this time.. [OGD] Global cooling
Buzz proclaims: > Look out all you environmentalist wackos, the Russians have just > announced a study that says the global warming is over and cooling is > about to begin. Just as well we have rational folk like you to keep us wackos in check huh? A pity you didn't check a little more carefully. Here let me help - this comes from a bit closer to the source: http://en.rian.ru/russia/20060825/53143686.html "Global cooling could develop on Earth in 50 years." What's the third word along - "could"? So it's as least as much an unproven hypothesis as the current global warming one is. And given that this info is over a year old, I don't see much publicity about it, Surely if this is true, it would be a cause for more immediate concern. Global warming may not be as bad as we think. I'd be happy for it to be wrong. But at least thinking about it has us trying to use less of our limited resources, developing better technology and maybe even polluting less. ___ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) orchids@orchidguide.com http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
