Re: [OGD] Natural / organic fertilisers
Comfrey is a fantastic ingredient for compost. So don't dig it up! Put the leaves (not the roots) on the pile. This may not help your epiphytic orchids, but it'll sure the give your garden a boost. Maybe your terrestrial orchids too (cymbidiums?), though I think someone more knowledgeable in growing them should comment. Re[2]: [OGD] Natural / organic fertilisers
Charles, Comfrey, while rather dangerous if ingested, has an excellent and unique medicinal value: It rapidly increases the healing of bone and ligament. It just so happens that I need this herb when preparing a formula for kung fu: Dit Da Jow. This is an herbal lineament which promotes the speedy healing of bone, muscle, and skin. Comfrey is a primary ingredient in this westernized formula. Steve ___ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) orchids@orchidguide.com http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com

The bumble bees loved the flowers, regards, charles phal sumatrana in flower, and 2 phal taenialis in spike. One has already blasted (despite extra humidifiers) but the other seems to be growing fine. Not the easiest for me to get flowers on. Plants grow like crazy, though. [OGD] Natural / organic fertilisers
Dear friends, does anybody have any experience of using natural fertilisers for orchid growing? Living in a farm (we are no farmes), we have access to a wide range of natural fertilisers available. In particular, we could easily use 1)Cow manure (fresh, aged) 2)Sheep manure (fresh, aged) 3)Horse manure (fresh, aged) As options of vegetarian origin, we could use 4)Comfrey 5)Nettle Has anybody any experience on using any of them? How do you treat them before using? Do you prepare liquid solutions? How do you handle concentration, in order to avoid overfertilising? Are there recipes available on ratios with water? ___ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) orchids@orchidguide.com http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
