I used to buy and give out this CD called The Secret Life of Paper...I have
a box full of this CD but it will not work on the newer computers...maybe
there is a newer version out there.

Zanders is the only company that makes elephanthide. And their current
production consists of black, white, three greys, and two browns. Anyone
selling the other colours is selling old stock.

I have read in a couple of different places that some of these colors
are also no longer being manufactured. But it all seems to be rumor.
Does anyone know any more about the state of the production of
Elephant Hide? Or are these rumors particular to the Zanders Mill
product called EH?

While this is true, there are two major differences in the paper being
offered by Talas.

1. It comes in some of the colors that are no longer generally available
(Crimson, Dark Green, Mauve) that The Source does not carry
2. The sheets are twice as large as the ones The Source has. 27 1/5" x 39
3/8" (roughly B1) vs 19.5” x 27.5” (roughly B2)

The size is particularly important for folding models like the Flasher Hat
which require the larger paper.

Some of the softwares I know:

 Robert Lang's "Origami Simulation"
http://www.langorigami.com/science/computational/origamisim/origamisim.php
It is limited to pureland fold (mountain/valley). It might not be what you
are looking for.

*Tung Ken Lam's Project: It has not been updated since 2006. I am looking
forward to any new enhancement
http://www.angelfire.com/or3/tklorigami0/

*
Tomohiro Tachi's Page: I have not followed his new development for years.
Check out his page for further information.
http://www.tsg.ne.jp/TT/software/
http://www.curvedfolding.com/page/rigid-origami-simulator-by

John Szinger's Foldinator:
http://zingman.com/origami/foldinator3OSMEpaper.php
I don't know the current status. John might be able to shed some light on
the progress. Personally I did have similar interest to develop something
alike. Unfortunately my priority of actual folding and designing is always
higher.

I also did a quick google search and found this link
http://origamisim.blogspot.com/
According to the description, the simulation includes the physical property
and memory. It would be nice to see any further development.

Talking about virtual folding, it would be cool to interface with the new
state-of-the-art sensor like Kinect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect)
or Leap Motion. (https://www.leapmotion.com/) . Again, I need to adjust my
origami priority for that.

[Origami] Folding Sunday - NYC, USA: Museum of Natural History

2013-04-24 Thread Paper Dragon

Folding Sunday - NYC, USA: Museum of Natural History
(Formerly Folding-Free-For-All)

Any OrigamiUSA members in or visiting the New York City area on the 4th Sunday
Origami Sunday will be held this Sunday (April 28 , 2013) in Children's
Lunchrooms in the basement of the Museum of Natural History. This is the room
reserved for the fourth Sunday meetings until the end of the year.
Any OrigamiUSA members in or visiting the New York City area on the 4th Sunday
of each month are welcome to join our monthly folding meetings at the American
Museum of Natural History from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

Please bring folding paper plus something to share. It's especially appreciated
if you bring a model to teach, but if you're not comfortable teaching yet
please bring something else to contribute such as a model to show that you've
been enjoying folding, an origami book or newsletter others might find of
interest, or paper for the group. We will have a special sharing table" set
aside for display of models to teach, models to show, books, publications, and
paper contributions.

These monthly meetings are a continuation of the tradition Lillian Oppenheimer
began over 50 years ago of encouraging paperfolders to get together to teach
each other and exchange ideas. OrigamiUSA is able to provide a meeting space -
the rest is up to those attending. When you arrive at the museum please check
at any information desk for the meeting room number.

The folding sessions are similar to the informal folding at convention. For
more formal classes, check out the information on the Spring Special Fun
Sessions: http://www.origami-usa.org/specialsessions . The remaining date is
May 19, 2013

Re: [Origami] Origami Software?

Does anyone know of any type of software that allows you to virtually fold
a sheet of paper? I've spent hours searching for one, but I never found
what I was looking for. With the technology that we have today, it
certainly seems possible. In fact, I even found an origami game online
called "folds," but it does not allow anything more than valley folds. So,
again, if anyone knows of such a software , please let me know. Thank
You,Devon H. (Also, it would preferably need to run on Windows 7.)

You can animate all folding sequence by Macromedia Flash. The contents of
origami-club are also made by Flash, but I think it is stop-motion style.
This is what I mean made by Flash.
