[Origami] Sighting: Sherlock Holmes Sign of Four

2016-09-20 Thread X-igami
In the 1987, "Sign of Four" Sherlock Holmes starring Jeremy Brett, when
Sherlock and company first meet Thaddeus Sholto, just as they are
stepping into the room, for one one brief moment you see what appears to
be a folded bird (not the traditional flapping bird) suspended just
above head height.

[Origami] R: In search of the creator/designer of self closing box

2016-09-20 Thread Philip Chapman-Bell

Hi, Belle,

When I first folded the model in 2009, I called it Dibs Cube, because I
imagined it must have been discovered before, but if it hadn't, I wanted
to call dibs on it. A crease pattern and some step photos here:

https://flic.kr/s/aHskHbhmzG

If there are no prior claims and my dibs stand, the model would be in
the creative commons realm and would not require permission to teach.

(For speakers of British English, I think you say, "bags," or "I call
bags on that.")

Yours,

Philip

[Origami] Alien life forms creation challenge

2016-09-20 Thread Gerardo @neorigami.com
Michio Kaku once wrote: "One in 200 stars has habitable Earth-like planets
surrounding it - in the galaxy, half a billion stars have Earth-like
planets going around them - that's huge, half a billion. So when we look at
the night sky, it makes sense that someone is looking back at us".

Sorry for only now thinking about telling you guys. I'm currently the judge
of the Monthly Folding Challenge in The Origami Forum:
http://snkhan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16=13712

I'd love to see you guys participate. If you already are a member of the
forum... awesome! If not, you must create an acount in order to participate
: )

Once you have an acount, you have till the end of the month–September 30th–to
create an original model of some kind of alien life form. Are you ready?

Let your wildest dreams about the infinite night skies inspire you.

Hi Belle,

it seems to me Giovanni Maltagliati's Gift Box.
The diagram is in Paulo Multinho's Origami 30 fold by fold projects.
