Actually, a similar variation of this design has been heavily used in
Taiwanese funeral.
They are placed in the coffin for cremation. Each flower is comprised of
three parts held together by a red string.
Each flower requires at least eighteen pieces of paper money for the dead,
with every 2 petals represented by one piece of paper.
