As someone has kindly pointed out to me, Kevin's website is not what I listed in my posting of last night; it's http://www.outsidetheboxstudio.com. Lotta cool stuff. Robert
[Origami] Big toot; big crane
Hi all, I'm currently in Santa Fe, working with my sculpting collaborator, Kevin Box (www.outsidethebox.com). One of the big projects in progress is "Flight of Folds," a pairing of a traditional Tsuru with a more modern design of an origami crane as a metal sculpture. We've created these in several sizes and several metals in the past, and have in progress the largest one yet, with a 3-meter wingspan. Here's a short video of it going into the powder coating oven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9Byo3okdpE&feature=youtu.be If you're attending OrigamiUSA's Pacific Coast Origami Convention in Albuquerque in October, the post-conference tour to Santa Fe will be stopping off at Kevin's studio at the Turquoise Trail Sculpture Garden (between Albuquerque and Santa Fe). We should have this piece finished and installed there by the time of the tour! Enjoy, Robert P.S. The two people in the photos are the powder-coating craftsman; the cameraperson who moves in front of the camera at about the 0:50 mark is Kevin.
