If I remove default-charset setting from global-web-application.xml, the

Is there some workaround for this?

RE: EJB Cart client error

2000-09-04 Thread Jason Rowland

I think the install.txt file is missing a crucial step. This step should
be:

2.1.5 Make sure the password for admin is set correctly in the
jndi.properties file in the cart and product directory. This should be the
same as it is listed in principals.xml file.
java.naming.security.credentials="your password here"

Once I set the passwords, everything worked as expected.

Logs and crashing

2000-09-04 Thread James Dodd

Hi,

We have two problems with Orion in production at the moment:

1. We have three web apps running within the same application and on the
same port, and two of them went down at the weekend. Nothing appears in
Orion's logs to tell us what has happened. This is BAD NEWS!

2. Our web logs are showing incorrect timestamps for requests. In fact,
each request is showing the same date/time, i.e. that of the last Orion
restart. It also means that we cannot tell when the web apps went down.
This is BAD NEWS!

And something I've just discovered is that the "Orion version
initialised." message is no longer appearing at start-up. Is this
something to be concerned about?

Please advise, urgently. Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated.

Regards,

James Dodd

Hi,
I'm a developer in a Ecommerce B2B project in Italy and from 3 months my
teams would deploy the JSp application for web Interface.
In my project there are Oracle 8i on Sun Server (3500 or 6500 ??) for Db
but there are many problems to choose a JSP Server, now for debugging we
used WebSphere and Jrun 3.0.
The main advantage for our architetture is a cluster for JSP Server for
scalability and security.
I red the support for Clustering in OrionServer but there are not too
many doc about it.
The cluster will be on 3 Solaris 450.
Is the OrionServer a right choice for this scenario ??
Is a real configuration on thsi in the net ??

Thanks a lot for all help

deploying orion-web.xml

Hello,

i know how to deploy an "orion-ejb-jar.xml" - and it works fine.

is it also possible to deploy an "orion-web.xml"?
i'd like to set "development and directory-browsing" parameters at deploy-time.

adding an "orion/orion-web.xml" to the .war file does not work.

any hints?
thanks in advantage

It lives in the

(web-app-root/)WEB-INF/orion-web.xml

as described in the doc, not the Orion directory.

Re: Newbie - Am I going mad? Broken links on home page

2000-09-04 Thread Tony Abbott

I see 1.2.9 has just been released as the new stable version. To get the
latest experimental stuff, change to your orion directory and run
"java -jar autoupdate.jar" - this will download any updated files.

RE: Newbie - Am I going mad? Broken links on home pageHiya,

Thanks to all that replied. Seems I'm not alone with my problem about
switching from ASP/COM to JSP/Bean/EJB. Seems I'm also not alone in working
till the wee hours. What is it about the IT industry? After 25 years I'm
still up all hours on the "impossible deadline treadmill". Sigh. Still -
 the pays good.

Secondly a big thanks to the Orion team. I've been investigating engines for
the last six weeks and the rush by so many groups to produce J2EE and
Servlet engines in general is amazing. And this team have done very, very
 well.

BTW, many people seem to be using later versions of Orion than the one from
the download page. I presume there's a standard place where the "latest
snapshot" can be found. Is this true?

The reason I ask is that sometimes when I modify a bean/servlet .java file
into the WEB-INF/classes dir and reload the JSP page, I get a long stack
trace that "seems" to indicate a problem with the code. I've discovered that
if I reload another plain JSP page and then reload my
page-that-calls--my-updated-bean, it suddenly works. This may be an old
bug/feature that has been fixed in a later release. Which begs the question
as to whether there is a simple page listing releases/bug fixes etc.

  Hiya,

I've been using Java for some time (but not J2EE) and have some
25+ years IT experience, so being a newbie is a bit of new
  experience... :-)

I've downloaded just about everything relating to Orion I can for
study. On the front page of the Orion home site there is a link
to some stuff I would like to read, but unfortunately it leads to
a "Sorry, page not found" page. The link is:

  http://www.orionserver.com/toolstut/

and is pointed to by the "New tools tutorial available" and "...
the GUI Tools tutorial". Any ideas on this anybody?

One last note. My newbie question:

I'm currently trapped in a M$ shop using W2K and asp. I've been
given a green light (after much debate) to move towards Java and
J2EE. I can't use Linux or Solaris unfortunately as that would be
pushing the envelope a bit too much... :-) In any case, has
anybody gone through this process with Orion before? My reason
for asking is that I have two Rack Compaqs running the Web-End
load balanced off an Intel load balancer, with a SQL7 Cluster at
the back end in a "lights-out" environment. The web site is using
the absolute minimum of Site Server Commerce Edition I could get
away with. This raises the question of how entity beans running
on the web-end communicate so as to avoid two beans (one on each
box) representing the same row in the database. It's probably old
hat to you guys, but I'm drowning in books at present and I can't
seem to find that specific answer.

EJB2.0 again

2000-09-04 Thread Udo Christ

Help, what am i doing wrong.

I cant get any CMR/CMP Beans to run. If tried it either using Orions OR
or the preliminary EJB2.0 way.

The database gets autocreated, I can create any EJB instances using
the Home interfaces. When i find a Parent with a Set of childs and
access that Set my client application freezes. this is with orion 1.3.0.

Please, does anybody have a working example of a CMR/CMP Bean -
the EJB way preferred - so i can see what i'm doing wrong.

I did browse through the Orion and Sun sites but couldn't find anything
which is stated that it runs and is downloadable

ThX in advance, Udo

1.2.9 bug: InputStream from request throwing an exception

2000-09-04 Thread Scott Lawrence

Orion 1.2.9
Windows 2000
J2SE 1.3.0

Bug: Underlying InputStream from request.getInputStream() throws an
exception when the input stream should return more than 2048 bytes.

Example: The following error occurs when running the JSP and servlet below.
The underlying input stream seems to throw and exception during in.read(...)
when trying to upload a file that's greater than 2048 (actually when the
file + the extra multi encoding 2048). I've tried this on Tomcat 3.2b
and it works fine. I've used similar code on older servers (not orion) and
didn't have this problem. I'm writing this to the users group as well in
case others are having problems with this. If you work with file uploading
through forms, this will certainly hamper your progress.
