Re: [osdcmy-public] PHP vs Python
A few points here: @Haris, Nuhaa better to scale down the scope, Python vs PHP FOR WEB PROGRAMMING, would be a better directive. But being unfair to Python? I hardly think so. Frameworks like Django can go head to head with Joomla anytime, Zope/Plone can scale to Wikipedia/Facebook size anytime... The reason why ppl start with PHP, is its easy to get started. There are 1-click installers for Windoze users that does the whole LAMP stack (thats why many just stick to MySQL, becos its included) and similar for Linux. With Python you still have to install the individual SW, yourself. And Web programming is far from trivial you need the following: a web server a database engine a templating engine an application server (PHP, Python or equivalent framework that handles HTML generation) and you still have to build the business logic yourself. So an easy installer is the 1st step. The second step, once you know HTML, is " aha, PHP is simple, you just embed code into the html to generate more HTML..." Good and easy for the noob to understand, no need to understand DOM, CSS, etc... BUT it breaks a major programming paradigm entrnched in the Unix world, "Seperate presentation from logic, in code". So you end up wit millions of sites built in this mess, and after it grows to a certain size, it becomes almost impossible to change, the structure/design and just keep patching it and a maintenance nightmare... So we wonder why there is no adption for the new PHP5(?) which does things in a different(better) way? by then its like a black hole you can't escape its gravity! (luckily I'm quite handsome. Hahah). Anyway this argument is quite useless. It's like badminton , if I'm using 500 rm racket and LCW using rm 50 racket and we play single , everybody will know the result;). It's not the language, but the programmer to make the apps an art.
