i suggest, register with share-hosting and suitable domain, and create wiki
inside.
Or if you don't mind I can manage the handler of that process.

I think this is a great(!) place. No fuss. Create a book, collaborate.
No headache about hosting, domain and so on. It's in Malay language
 only, though.

Create books for Ubuntu, Fedora, General Linux, everything you can.. I
think so, coz i just take a peek at it. Not thorough analysis.

Choose one already. btw, if you guys decide to move away from
osdcmy.pbworks.org
you can just copy the stuff i did to your favourite wiki. it mostly just
links anyway.

Btw with so much resource already on wikibooks, why even bother to start our
own other than translation.

Ok, now can't delete the account, http://osdcmy.pbworks.com/

pbwiki is now pbworks, isn't it?

if that's the case, im very worried.
I made one already to take a peek.
Sadly, there's no backup option - available for premium
Premium is instinctively paid service.

It's a disaster if a knowledge tank sunk and there's no backup available
around.

Agree..

Forum/Bulletin Board etc is for chat, post anything that maybe leads to
debate and lots of other things..
we do have mailing list, other platform such as forum etc...

for this, is about HOW-TO and technical knowledge/notes/guide/reference,
thats all..

i think just start something, even if we don't have self-hosted server, a
free host is ok.. our concern is the content,

so better in this few days we already decided where, and start...

too much argument, leads to nowhere..

I think pbwiki is nice.. or other wiki format..

my choice/format so far:

1- PBwiki
2-http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LPI_Linux_Certification
3-http://wiki.netbsd.se/Main_Page
http://wiki.netbsd.se/Tutorials <-- example HOW-TO that i think nice for
us to do ( similiar like this )

hope we can cut off lots of argument, and do something ASAP..

Since we are working on delivering knowledge, I suggest we'd better go
with knowledge management system. It occurs to me that phpBB is not a
knowledge management system. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think we can start now..

so most of us think wiki is the best choice, then let's do it..

so that wiki should be:

1- self-hosted

2- freely hosted like pbwiki/pbworks

any other options please tell..

we need to do it ASAP...

Maybe we can just create an example page to give contributors a feel of
the article looks to prevent massive amount of different article flow.

Wiki page like wikibooks[1] is a neat information flow example. Just for
a viewing pleasure. Mediawiki should be sufficient for this project.

We have to start before the idea expires, tho...

Quality is good for maintain the standards, but anyway for initial start,
it's better to gather and start, after that we can fix the
looks+presentation etc..

No restriction on who can contribute, anyone can and free to share the
knowledge..

i think wiki page is a good start...

I suggest that we have quality control on the information. Such as some
standards to follow. Not preventive on the information side, only on
presentation on information.

IMHO, quality matters when it came to attracting audience. Users will
have trouble in digesting information if it is in a shape of mess.

And one more, is about abstraction. We should prepare categories that
makes sense, and ask contributors to hook their documentation in the
right categories. Search and navigation should be more easier this way.

I hope that this will not be centralized in terms of who can contribute.
But we have to have some trusted party to oversee the quality of the
article presentation.

Just my 1 cent~

p/s: can we have a 'bottom' posting style on this mailing list instead
of 'top' posting?

Anything will do,
as long as the thing is useful for some of newbies/others to grab the
knowledge, and so on..

wiki or etc is ok, we look for the best, easiest thing to collaborate and
contribute.

we can split it to some category like:

1- Distro - FreeBSD, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo etc2..
This can rage from basic installation until details technical or hardware
compatibilty, tips and tricks patch the kernel blablabla..

2- Apps - Apache, SAMBA, Proftpd, others

3- Security - firewall ipf/pf/ipchains/iptables, IDS - Snort, others ,
Tripwire and other products,

4- Others

5- Links - links to other existing, new how-to from other site, useful tips
from somewhere..
For this, i think old how-to still useful and good to see+pay a tribute and
respect to them, even from the past,
with their guide and how-to, bring us a better knowledge today

TQ

for osdc.my, a more efficient approach is act like an aggregator with

Hi all (redundant greetings):

This is a bit awkward, top posting...

I second the suggestion. Somewhat I felt that this is for Malaysian
Developer (obviously stated in the name OSDC.my). This place should also
be good for students who wanted to join to find some help or experience,
and of course, Malaysian students. Maybe we should include some how-tos
and documentation in both Malay and English language. Just a suggestion.
But what is the most important, we should have a centralized docs, and
hopefully, this will wipe out redundancy, and override confusion (if
there's some clash in the info).

p/s: i hate redundancy.

El

Re: [osdcmy-public] Documentation projects, for all reference

2010-02-25 Terurut Topik Raja Iskandar Shah
this is for every one to consider

my team has had snippets of how-tos and guides on:
1. blogs
2. forums
3. project repo
4. e-mails

what we have now done starting from this year is to consolidate all those
onto the company website blog (since the company pays for the team's salary)
- so everything is in one place

eventually, we will put the whole content for the user / admin / technical
manual online just like how drupal does it

for osdc.my, a more efficient approach is act like an aggregator with
sections for guides, news, events, etc . and maybe by type of software. the
oss communities / projects can then point this aggregrator to their
respective feeds. publish once and get the information distributed over many
sites

for my team, since the software and the documentation is free - attracting
people to our services (implementation, customisation, support, training) is
our livelihood, and 1 way to attract them is for them to visit our website.
creating links / content to point back to our website will be great.

[osdcmy-public] Documentation projects, for all reference

2010-02-25 Terurut Topik Ahmad Arafat Abdullah
Hi all;

for most of us know, some of us ( including me ) is doing rather How-to or
some other documentation..

anyway this documentation is scattered everywhere, some is on personal webs,
etc2..

so i would like to ask, that we collect all those links/docs to be
centralised and can be some point/centre of reference in docs..

long time ago we can see it in drb-it, and other places written by our
frens/enthusiast..

Even if some of us maybe didn't want to be grouped, or written it at the
same host/place blablabla ( possibly because of some reason, maybe )
it's ok for us to list the links to the docs/site for reference...

just my idea and suggestion

TQ
