Re: [osg-users] Planning for upcoming OpenSceneGraph 2.6 release
Hi Robert, I'll be building them over the next couple days (holiday weekend travel etc). I'll check the new binaries into the osgToy SVN, we can then decide how to integrate into OSG and CMake. I'll let you know when ready. I'm curious if anyone has experience with those new versions, and if anyone has opinions pro/con on moving to them? Also, are there any other packages to be updated that I've missed? thanks -- mew On Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 12:58 PM, Robert Osfield [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Mike, Updating the Cmake dependencies should be pretty straight forward, I guess the first step is to get these dependencies building, then update the dependency checks. If it is to make it then it'll need to compile cleanly across all platforms, if it doesn't work perfectly across it's feature set or is not feature complete I won't be worried - we can always roll 2.6 with a partially complete osgWidget and make it clear to the community that it's a work in progress, with API still in flux. Last I checked, it built and ran fine on both platforms I have access to: Windows and Linux. Jeremy might have some comments on feature set, but I personally think it's ready for a first inclusion and then work from there. Let me check again on Windows, just to make sure (Jeremy tests less often on Windows if I recall correctly), but barring any major problems, I'd definitely go for including it in 2.6. [osg-users] Planning for upcoming OpenSceneGraph 2.6 release
Hi All, Now I've tagged the OpenSceneGraph-2.5.3 dev release, I'm looking ahead to the 2.6 release. I would like this out before Siggraph, a date in July being something that would probably be good to aim for. What date to aim for will depend upon availability of users on different platforms to do testing and get the software ground down and ready. I personally have a 1 week holiday at the end of July booked, and will take another week off, perhaps in July or August. Work wise I will complete the kd-tree support that I begun earlier this month prior to 2.6, and as long as support doesn't go on being crazy likes the last month then I should have this finished in the next week. Once this is in SVN, I'm happy to stick with a feature freeze for 2.6 and then go for the release. This of course is just my own personal perspective, I need feedback from the community on availability, dates for a release that would work/wouldn't work for you, submissions that you plan to make and would to make it in to 2.6. Originally I have planned to get osgWidget integrated for 2.6, but I've been rather swept off my feet with work so haven't been able to push this forward, potentially if it's deemed useful and ready enough as is then we could go still for integration prior to 2.6. The conservative thing to do would be to make a feature freeze pretty soon, and leave out significant additions till after 2.6, this reduces the risk and the time required to get 2.6 out the door. The more ambitious would be to be integrate other additions prior to 2.6, but this ups the risks and pushes the likely release date till later. Noting integrating features till after 2.6 does mean that it'll be another 4 or so months before there will be another window to get these items integrated to a stable release. Thoughts on this? As a general note, I'm happy to see the point releases go 2.6, 2.8, 2.10, 2.12, 2.14 in a relatively short order for the 2.x series. Going for a 3.x would be something that would require a significant new platform or architecture, this era of development is something to pontificate on, but it's not something I see as near term, and isn't something I've started planning for. Hi Robert, This of course is just my own personal perspective, I need feedback from the community on availability, dates for a release that would work/wouldn't work for you, submissions that you plan to make and would to make it in to 2.6. I will be available until Siggraph (my vacation weeks are booked for the weeks after). I'll be glad to test on Win32 and Linux as always. Regarding submissions, did you have a chance to look at the first cut of the ScreenCaptureHandler I sent in a few weeks ago? It's pretty bare bones but I'd like to get feedback before moving forward any more on it. I didn't send it thinking it would be merged at this point, just looking to get feedback. And considering the number of times it's been asked lately on the list (how to take a screenshot), I think it would be a good addition. Originally I have planned to get osgWidget integrated for 2.6, but I've been rather swept off my feet with work so haven't been able to push this forward, potentially if it's deemed useful and ready enough as is then we could go still for integration prior to 2.6. I think it would be a very good thing to get integrated so it can be more widely used and tested, the sooner the better. Again I'll be glad to do any testing required. Looking forward to 2.6, J-S -- __ Jean-Sebastien Guay[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.cm-labs.com/ http://whitestar02.webhop.org/ ___ osg-users mailing list osg-users@lists.openscenegraph.org http://lists.openscenegraph.org/listinfo.cgi/osg-users-openscenegraph.org
