I have tried to run Compiz and Beryl and OSG worked just fine with Nvidia
drivers. I didn't benchmark too much, but the performance was similar.
With
ATI there are issues, but that is more likely due to the buggy drivers.

Regarding functionality there could be issues with some extensions if you
are
using the Xgl proxy X server. That one is based on Mesa and is exposing
only
standard APIs, thus no Nvidia/ATI proprietary extensions. If you are
running
directly using AIGLX with Nvidia drivers there should be no problem.
Anyhow,
unlike with Vista, you can always run your application *without* the 3D
window manager.

2007-02-24 Thread Robert Osfield

Hi All,

As part of the latest OpenGL newletter there is an article about
OpenGL oin MS Vista:

  http://www.opengl.org/pipeline/article/vol003_7/

Upshot seems to be that OpenGL will work fine, but expect performance
to be down, and memory to be in shorter supply as the window manager
gobbles up extra memory. There are few items that break certain apps
too.

This all makes me curious how much of hit OSX has with its 3D window
manager, and what we might see with new Linux 3D window managers.

Hi,

I had problems with Vistan on a MacBook pro, svn compiled fine with
VS2005(sp1 + patch), but when the viewer was realized, all I got was a
black screen, and the machine froze (looks like the graphics froze).

I blame ATI and their drivers (using the latest mobility drivers from
the ati site)

hardware:
Intel Core Duo
ati X1600 mobile 128mb
1.5 Gb ram

Anybody has any experience with vista & ati ?
