What effect do you think the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld will have on the war in Iraq? After years of defending his secretary of defense, President Bush on Wednesday announced Donald H. Rumfeld's resignation within hours of the Democrats' triumph in congressional elections. Bush reached back to his father's administration to tap a former CIA director to run the Pentagon. The Iraq war was the central issue of Rumsfeld's nearly six-year tenure, and unhappiness with the war was a major element of voter dissatisfaction Tuesday -- and the main impetus for his departure. Even some GOP lawmakers in Congress became critical of the war's management, and growing numbers of politicians were urging Bush to replace Rumsfeld. Bush said Robert M. Gates, 63, a national security veteran, family friend and currently president of Texas A&M University, would be nominated to replace Rumsfeld. I support the war, but to me that is an indication the strategy to win is too slow. I believe a substantial majority of people want victory in Iraq. However, if they can't see real progress, by measured results, then what alternative do we have but to stop getting the men and women of our military killed?" We also need to improve the needs of our troops, people are much more important than oil. Bit the Bullet Bush, get us out of this war." This is a signal that this lame duck administration--emphasize lame--has acknowledged that change is needed and mandated by the people. But, observer is right: Only time will tell. I'll feel better when this president shuts up and acts. Cheney, Rove and Rice should also go." It should be interesting...especially now with the new influx of non intelligence about to hit Washington, and another crew of non intelligence leaving...It's a key position. Don't forget that the Islamofascists want to kill Democrats just as much as Republicans! It will just be easier for them to accomplish that goal come January." Bush is determined to kill them all, our troops that is. Money drives Bush and his cabinet." It was time for Rumsfeld to go, that is not even open to discussion. Will his replacement prove to be the right man for the job? Only time will tell." +++ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
