Re: [OSList] Invitation using youtube

2017-11-03 Thread Harrison Owen via OSList
Possible point of interest… For years a major organizational user of Open Space
was – guess what – The Nuns! I remember in one of the first training programs
we had two Mother Superiors. I know space was opened multiple times, and I
haven’t kept up with the present situation, but given the current situation it
may not be something they (the Nuns) want to talk about.

Yes Brendan it will be quite a challenge for the organisation that is so
strongly hierarchical. Where there is a strong tendency to defer decisions to
“those above”, and doing what I am told. The current issues relating to the
Catholic Church in particular, demonstrate how this system has failed
catastrophically.

We can but hope that the organisation does not obstruct the forces that open
space will release. There is nothing as powerful as an idea whose time has
come. Our Open Space community needs to be as one with those who have the
privilege to attend the event and all must know that the right people are there
and that there is space for all and their ideas/issues/ attitudes / aspirations.

I am sure Father Brian will be smiling on the event and doing what he can to
make it as good as possible. I am not sure what he will be telling “the
Bishop” as in the past some of the messages he sent were somewhat different to
the messages others got!

I can’t hardly wait to see the outputs from the gathering.

Regards

Rob

I will forward it to a few Catholics here in Australia - see if we can expand

I remember Michael Hermann telling the story, many years ago when he was 'down

approached him and asked: “Can the Catholics do this?”

Oh. Lisa Kimball. I’m so sad to hear of her passing. She wasn’t that old!

Lisa was smart, creative and a trail blazer in so many ways. She supported
early experiments with technology that connects like Metanet and later with
Group Jazz. She’s also been a a leader around liberating structures. And part
of the Plexus Institute.

I found a picture of her online. Naturally, she’s with a computer!

I can’t believe she’s gone.

She will be missed,

Re: [OSList] Lisa Carlson

2017-11-03 Thread Michael Herman via OSList
Wow. Thanks for this sad news, Harrison.

It was Lisa who invited me into the Metanet online conversations about OS,
back in 1996, pre-oslist. The stated price was $20 monthly and I
hesitated. She said something like, "Don't worry about it, you'll
contribute some other way..." I went home and read 4+ years of the
earliest conversations about OS, reopened some of them and joined in the
new ones. I remember that time as some of the fastest, most amazing
learning I've ever done. I showed up at my first OSonOS (OSonOS#4) later
that year as a full participant, knowing many of the people and so many of
the stories and ways of being.

My work on openspaceworld.org and other online OS contributions has always
been my way of paying forward the generosity of Lisa's invitation to join
those Metanet conversations. That's just one of the ripples Lisa has left
in the world. Changed my life, for sure, in just a very few
conversations. She really was amazing.

Michael

Ah…

I remember Lisa too. I joined the community just at the end of the TMN days,
in the mid nineties, as the OSLIST was becoming the way we stayed connected.
She was so important to this global community. We may have all found each other
some other way, but I think, as Micheal said, TMN and how it was hosted made
our online connections what they are, even 25+ years later.
