[OSList] Twist

2017-02-13 Thread Bhavesh Patel via OSList
This came across my desk: https://workshopbank.com/open-space-technology

The guy talks about a 'twist' in the process that seems like a fundamental
change to me... what do you think?

Hi, Bhavesh! I agree with you--it's a change, and it's not really OST. It's
more like a long-format World Cafe, with pre-set topics.

Cheers!

Re: [OSList] Twist

2017-02-13 Thread Harrison Owen via OSList
Ah yes. Regain Control ! Somebody is always trying. But the big secret is that
you really can’t do it. Fools’ Errand. It isn’t a question of the “integrity of
the process,” morality, good form – Truth is, self organization rules. It’s the
way things are. Yes, we certainly can clutter things up, slow stuff down, add a
little twist or turn – but at the end of the day, The Agenda will be set by all
the people involved. Now it may happen that The Agenda will be set and worked
at the coffee breaks, in the “comfort rooms,” or on the ride home … all of
which seem like a bad waste of time to me, to say nothing of energy and
creativity. But people will do the strangest things.

Re: [OSList] Twist

2017-02-14 Thread Amanda Bucklow via OSList
I did groan when I saw the ‘twist’. Often a twist makes something unbalanced or
broken.

There is always a certain kind of pressure from clients to have an agenda. They
don’t appreciate that it works better without and mostly because they haven’t
experienced it. Some facilitators feel a compromise is the answer and again
often it is worse because it becomes neither one thing nor the other.

Open Space for me, works best in its organic, non-gmo state, without icing or
spice just human breath.

warm wishes to you, Harrison, from a very cold London.

Re: [OSList] Twist

2017-02-14 Thread Koos de Heer via OSList
There is more than just this one twist (which is already more than just a
“twist”).

Also:

-Grouping of topics by the facilitator

-Urging the conveners to have lots of passion (wonder why that would be
necessary at all – could it be because of the “twists”?)

-One facilitator per session – if there is one thing that I have seen
to suck away the energy, it is this one.

Always difficult what to do. Whenever I encounter people who tell me “Nah, Open
Space doesn’t work, I have done it and it was dull and boring” it always turns
out to have been an Open Space with a twist. But there is nothing one can do to
stop this – and after all, the law of self organization will always prevail in
the end. So let’s just stick to our own truth and not waste energy fighting
other’s truths.
