[OSList] florian fischer has passed away

2015-11-01 Thread Catherine Pfaehler via OSList
Dear All

Florian's clarity had impressend me through his posts to oslist. I became
curious about who this person was and wrote to him off-list, which
established our contact sometime in 2004.

Then there was a time when I was no longer subscribed to OSLIST because of
too little time for reading. During this time, he forwarded Roger's email
that he was looking for somebody in Switzerland who could facilitate an OS
gathering both in German and French - Roger had been introduced to OST by
Lisa in Singapore shortly before and wanted to use it in his work. Florian
asked me if this was not something I would like to consider. I answered
"only if you help". So the two of us met Roger in Basel and received the
task to organize a bilingual week-end in Open Space in Switzerland, my first
paid OS facilitation. Florian required that I do the front work; he was my
patient backup for all the many questions I had, and we had agreed to split
the money we would receive. This was a very empowering way to allow me to
become an OS facilitator.

We had later agreed that he would be the German speaking facilitator for the
event and I would do the French part. Two days before the event in July
2005, Florian wrote to me that he couldn't be present because of a serious
health issue. After a moment of fear, I thought "well, the Universe believes
I can do this without Florian, so I better believe this too..." and informed
Roger. Florian had already contacted Wolfgang asking if he would do the
German speaking part as my assistent. It was a rich and very full three days
- I didn't only do the necessary OST announcements, but had to translate the
many announcements of workshops by participants. I was exhausted afterwards,
but as always, it worked out perfectly well, empowering not only the
participants in a very difficult theme, but myself as well...

In October 2007, my then husband Stefan and I had booked a week in the
beautiful cottages of Florian, Katharina and Shirin in Rodalquilar,
Andalucia (Casas Eva, www.rodalquilar.com). The day before we were scheduled
to arrive there, we received the shocking news that my daughters, their
father and spouse had died in Thailand (I had posted about this to oslist
then, as the Open Space principles were utterly helpful for me then once
more...). Florian, his wife Katharina and their daughter Shirin were there
to receive us despite of everything, offering their internet and telephone
connection for the necessary actions and holding space for us in a most
beautiful, supportive way, cooking for us, seeing to it that we slept enough
- being totally present and totally invisible at the same time, as we all
strive to be when holding space.

Life has allowed us to be in touch lightly yet intensely, to be witnesses of
essential moments in each other's lives, and to honour who the other was.
What a gift...

Gratefully, Catherine

[OSList] florian fischer has passed away

2015-11-01 Thread Raffi Aftandelian via OSList
My goodness! So unexpected! I remember meeting him in a training led by Marv
and Sandra in 2003 in Potsdam, if I'm not mistaken.
I was taken by his playfulness and poetry. And I remember thinking, "Gosh, I'd
love to have that sense of lightness, open-heartedness, presence, and play when
I'm his age."
What a gift he is/was to the world.
Florian offered the poem/reflection for Living Peace in 2007.
Raffi
Living peace

Florian Fischer

There is a special space

where I'm studying peace,

studying almost permanently,

how to welcome peace, how to practice peace,

how to hold peace, how to live peace:

It is the space between

»This is what I intended - but this is what happened*.

An interval, a void, a break, a silence.

It is the difference between frustration and acceptance,

it is the way from No to Yes - and from Yes to No,

it is the insight, that imagination,

not only sometimes but every time,

switches to illusion in the moment of realisation,

it is the deep breathe before agreeing the change,

and when it seems another person is changing my mind,

it is the space to transform

my ill humor about dependance into humbleness

to see that they themselves are not less dependent.

Sometimes it is the waiting-room

to host a thrilling idea from conception to birth,

sometimes it is an open space where a fear disappears

and something dissolves just like that.

In any case it is the playground between my own self

and the self which is working on self-organization.

It is all only about my inner peace,

my only possible contribution to peace in the world.

Rodalquilar, 30.12.2007

Thank you Peggy for reminding me. I was there too in Berlin in 2000 and at the
Swenmark gathering in 2003. I remember Florian as a very gentle and at the same
time very dedicated person. And also very creative. He could challenge my
assumptions in a way that was very inspiring and at the same time a bit
unsettling. I guess that is the way it should be.

Not having seen him for over 10 years I can't say that I miss him, but I
celebrate his life and I cherish the memories.

and there, not of we and you, but rather a matter of the distinction within the
unit, it is a matter of unity in the network of complex structures.

One thing that impressed me about Florian was his learning more English so that
he could participate more in the Open Space community. I saw him at several
OSonOS gatherings, including Vancouver, BC in 2001 and at the “Svenmark OSOnOS
(Sweden/Denmark), where these pictures were taken in 2003:

I always had the sense that anything could happen when Florian was around. He
will be missed.

Appreciatively,
Peggy

[OSList] florian fischer has passed away

2015-10-29 Thread Catherine Pfaehler via OSList
Dear Open Space family

Upon my return home tonight, I found a letter in the mail.

„on sunday evening october 18th, florian has sunk back into the secret of
life. he departed decidedly, has spread his wings powerfully for his last
journey. – we live on a little bit and will then come too. until then, he
will stay in our hearts forever.“

His family has sent a beautiful card with texts from florian. The one on the
front side reads:

„beginning

over is over

in the beginning there was no end.

so it was decided,

that beginning shall follow beginning,

forever.

over-is-over since means:

give space to new beginning.“

On the back side of the card, I read „today, his family and closest friends
have said good-bye to florian, full of gratitude, on the evangelic cemetery
of alt-schöneberg, berlin.“

With fond memories of florian who, with katharina and shirin, magnificently
held space for us when we visited them in Rodalquilar in October 2007 full
of sadness and shock as we had just received the news of the death of my
daughters and their father and spouse, and who was my coach in my first big
Open Space… Fare well, my dear friend!

Catherine

PS: If you want to send a card, the address of katharina’s and florian’s
home is now: Katharina Fischer-Möcklinghoff, Münchener Strasse 6, D – 10775
Berlin

Re: [OSList] florian fischer has passed away

2015-10-29 Thread Alan Stewart via OSList
Dear Catherine and All

Sad new that Florian is no longer with us and yet great celebration of who
he was and what he contributed to our Open Space community.

I loved his posts on the list, invariably poetic, ‘quirky ‘and deep.

One such contained:

nur umwege fuehren zur loesung -

only detours lead to a solution -

es gibt nur umwege -

there is nothing but detours -

alle wege fuehren zu einer loesung

every road leads to a solution -

es gibt nur eine loesung -

there is only one solution -

jede loesung führt zu einer weiteren loesung -

every solution leads to a following one -

Florian and I met only once and briefly when I stayed overnight at his home
in Berlin in 2004. What a memorable time he, Katharina and I had savouring
the cafes – one on a boat – and music on that balmy spring evening. See
photo attached.

We corresponded periodically, joyfully and I regarded him as a close
friend.

A lovely, lively spirit was our mate Florian.

Looking forward

Alan

Re: [OSList] florian fischer has passed away

2015-10-29 Thread Chris Corrigan via OSList
Oh my gosh. This is heartbreaking.

What an incredible and beautiful soul that man was. He was the artist and the
sensitive heart of our OS community for a long time, fluttering on the margins
and occasionally releasing sprays of beauty and colour into our midst. I met
him only once, and loved him from that moment (and maybe before). We traded
poews and books, offered from the marginal space of the self-created poetry of
open space.

florian was for me always more spirit than human…and now he is all spirit.

I am in the very midst of holding space for 34 social service leaders, and I
read this. And my closing will be devoted to him. It will be silence, a time
to reflect on all who bring our lives and work the aesthetic quality that makes
it all worth doing.

Fly, florian, you gentle butterfly. Thank you for alighting on my finger for a
while.

Chris
