Re: Osmand vs. Komoot??

2018-01-18 Thread john whelan
Apart from asking me to pay 29 or 39 euros it didn't seem to be very user
friendly.

When selecting a start point it seemed to assume my location was some 450
kilometres from the actual location.

Eventually it accepted a street address but as suggested places to go where
all 450 kilometres away. It didn't appear to want to accept a street
address for the destination. I brought up OpenStreetMap in a web browser
to confirm the destination address was in OpenStreetMap.
Three different destination addresses were tried with the same result.

When I tried to locate it on the map the labels started to move across the
screen covering the map.

I changed my settings to allow landscape mode and then I was able to find
the destination on the map. The map display seemed bracketed by lots of
unneeded information.

The route it chose was mainly major highways when there were residential
roads and local parks and footpaths that permit cycling which would be a
lot safer. Both the start and destination were in an urban area.

It also seemed to circle all round the destination instead of going to the
front entrance.

I've no idea if it downloaded an offline map or not.

I suspect with a week's training course it might work but for a none
sporting person looking for a simple safe cycle route it doesn't appear to
have much appeal.

This was on a NEXUS 7 so 7 inch screen. With a smaller screen I suspect
the map shown would be even smaller.
