Turning circles now rendering as roundabouts

2019-02-08 Thread Graeme Fitzpatrick
Have just downloaded the January updated Australia map & noticed that
points marked on OSM as turning circles (usually at the end of cul-de-sacs)
are now rendering as roundabouts, but actually mapped roundabouts aren't!

Is this something that has been noticed previously?

Thanks

Graeme

True, but I mentioned it earlier on an OSM mailing list & one of the others
said he'd tried searching it via Bing & Bing Maps & no results at all?

Thanks

Re: Google maps location code?

2017-11-02 Thread Graeme Fitzpatrick
Bit more information.

Turns out it's an Open Location Code: <http://openlocationcode.com/>

Apparently developed at Google, but it says it's open source & can be
freely used?

Even so, should OSMAND be promoting something that displays on Google Maps?

Google maps location code?

2017-11-02 Thread Graeme Fitzpatrick
Hi

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

Have been working on OSM adding & updating details, while also checking
OSMAND+ on my phone to see how things were actually showing on the map, &
found something a bit unusual.

Search for a POI, select one, go to More Actions - Show Description, & it
will give you the details for that POI that have been entered in OSM,
together with a Lat / Long location, which is all fine.

However, it's also showing another location code, eg 5R3MXC5M+JM. Clicking
on that field on the phone, doesn't seem to do anything, but if you do a
Google search on that data, it returns a location on Google Maps, which is
the location of the POI! If you try it now, by highlighting 5R3MXC5M+JM &
doing a "Search in Google" it will return a location in Mermaid Beach,
Queensland, Australia, which is the restaurant that I was looking at.

Why is OSMAND apparently showing Google Maps data?

Anybody got any thoughts / ideas?

Thanks

Graeme
