Re: [OTlist] "good" occupational therapy
1. What is does it mean to be a 'good' occupational therapist? Is it important to you? A good OT is a person who is FOCUSED on identifying and improving patients' occupational deficits. 2. How would you measure if a therapist is "good' or not? The degree to which I facilitate positive change in a patient is one measure of a good therapist. 3. Who does it matter to if we are "good" therapists or not? Being a "good" therapist is crucial to our success with individual patients and is also important to our success as a profession. 4. Is "good" enough? How would you like to practise and what would you like someone to describe you and your practise as? eg. responsive, engaged? No, "good" is not enough. Therapist should strive to be the best OT for each patient. This requires a therapist to constantly assess a patient's response to the therapist and to change accordingly. Some patient need a direct no-nonsense approach. Some patients need an easy-going approach. The job of the GREAT OT is forming a therapeutic relationship which motivates and enhances the patient's ability to exact positive changes in their own life. -- Options? www.otnow.com/mailman/options/otlist_otnow.com Archive? www.mail-archive.com/otlist@otnow.com
[OTlist] "good" occupational therapy
Hi everyone, As an assignment for University our topic is "good" occupational therapy. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from working occupational therapists or from a consumer point of view. 1. What is does it mean to be a 'good' occupational therapist? Is it important to you? 2. How would you measure if a therapist is "good' or not? 3. Who does it matter to if we are "good" therapists or not? 3. Is "good" enough? How would you like to practise and what would you like someone to describe you and your practise as? eg. responsive, engaged? Thanks for your time, any input is muchly appreciated! Thanks Sarah Sheehan -- Options? www.otnow.com/mailman/options/otlist_otnow.com Archive? www.mail-archive.com/otlist@otnow.com
