I'm also very interested in asset- or better configuration-mgmt-tools. http://www.BPMspace.com/ was launched as OSS a view weeks ago. It is a process-driven-ITSM-tool which includes or will include a CMDB (?). Stef Agreed, but the majority of GPL software is free (as in price) because the "legal" way to charge for the software is restricted to the distribution or use of the program. And as such once you have purchased the right to download or use the software there is nothing restricting you from forking the code and starting a free (as in price) version. This being the case one of the best ways I've seen for a free software group to make money is in charging for support. (ie. Postgres, OTRS) I don't want to start a flame war and correct me if I'm wrong, that does happen to me from time to time. I would still pay for OTRS if there were a charge but I think Peregrine's pricing model of >$100,000.00 for a company of ~250 people is a bit out of line. Especially considering that it would only be used by about 5 people in the company. -- Adam ___ OTRS mailing list: otrs - Webpage: http://otrs.org/ Archive: http://lists.otrs.org/pipermail/otrs To unsubscribe: http://lists.otrs.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/otrs Support oder Consulting für Ihr OTRS System? => http://www.otrs.de/

[otrs] Asset Management
I run an IT department for a medium sized company and have used OTRS for almost 18 months. It's been a godsend, wonderful product. Kudos to all the developers. I almost couldn't have written it better myself. ;) To my question, I am in need of an inventory control or asset management system. Does OTRS have plans of creating anything like this? Also, does any one on the list have a system in use that they have integrated with OTRS? I know that OTRS has a goal of integration with Peregrine, but that's a little out of my price range. (Long live OpenSource and the GPL!!) Thanks for any help. -- Adam Herbert IT Operations Manager Franklin American Mtg. [otrs] Asset management informations into tickets
Hi, with each new ticket, I'd like to integrate some info about hardware and software of the client retrieved from an Asset Management System. Actually I own "AM" by Computer Associates that is a central collector server with agents deployed on the local computers. Unluckly the database is not well documented! I was wondering if anyone of you realized with its own OTRS and its own Asset Management system an integration, and in particular: 1) which Asset Management system did you use to do that? 2) In which way (which Perl modules and which DTL pages) did you build the interface between the ticket (primary key is client, I suppose) and the Asset Database? Any help is very much appreciated, also to say: "dont do that, not possible!"
