ocsync is in the NEW queue of debian (http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html)
and will be enter debian for wheezy+1. Mirall and qtkeychain will follow. So
with wheezey+1 it will be shipped in core debian. I'm also planing building it
for backports, so mirall will be available for wheezy. Wheezy will be shipped
with Qt4.8.

@sebas: will Qt4.8 be enough to run the plama client?

Maybe some one can comment on it.
You error:

"Warning: The PHP LDAP module needs is not installed, the backend will not
work. Please ask your system administrator to install it.
"
Shows that in OC you have enabled LDAP user backend app.
Login as admin, click to apps->" LDAP user and group backend" and disable it.
Logout login gain.

Re: [Owncloud] Album covers in clientsync folder

2013-03-06 Thread Dirk Kastens
Forget this issue. It seems that the covers have been copied from my
laptop, that I also synced to owncloud. Meanwhile the cover files have
disappeared.

I copied a mp3 file into my owncloud folder on my windows pc. The client
copied it to the owncloud server where I could play the music. It seems
that OC automatically created the Folder.jpg and AlbumArtSmall.jpg
files. Those files do not appear in my windows folder. Now, after
deleting the mp3 file on my pc, the client also deleted the mp3 file in
the clientsync folder. But the album covers still exist. Does this has
something to do with this issue:

Re: [Owncloud] User Restrictions

2013-03-06 Thread Arman Khalatyan
Do you really need LDAP?
If your users are local on mysql, you should disable: LDAP user and
group backend app.

" / user on a root directory"??
What does it mean?
You should provide path where users data is residing, it should be
writablel by apache(or whathever server ) user.
you could provide /OC/data/, then chown -R www-data:www-data /OC/data
on debianlike systems or on RH like systems apache user is
"apache:apache".

I think this is a great idea. Whether it should be standalone or integrated in
the current app, should probably be discussed with Bartek.

Since Android is currently deployed the most, I'd go for this. If you go
standalone, it might also make sense to take an existing free news app and try
to see if it is possible to give it an owncloud backend.

Hi,

Interesting, so if we cut support for the next release, we would have a gap of
a few weeks. I think that's still ok, but we need to solve the CI server
problem first.

It shouldn't be that of an issue to compile a more recent version of qt on that
server.
In an ideal world we should compile mirall not only with one version of qt
anyhow! ;-9
We don't because we build for a whole bunch of distros who all come with
slightly different versions.

In the 4.6 case however, we're talking of an ancient version really.

But I think we have a deal, latest when new Deb stable is released we
wont have the 4.6 support any more.

You can patch it yourself by replacing

Great! I didn't know that this is that simple. I'll give it a try.

Wow, neat. :)

(It also means that some of the #ifdeffery in the source is useless and
wrong.)

I see value in being able to build on Debian stable, although I don't use it
myself (using Testing, no problems there). It won't enter the official tree
anytime soon for various reasons (release cadence, iniparser depdendency), so
being able to build it is a nice thing.

Dropping the Qt 4.6 dependency still sounds understandable to me, it's quite
old, and it will not work with the Plasma client anyway (that requires newer
Qt).

I already double checked this some time ago - there are no backports available.
People most probably have to mess around in mixing release (use packages from
testing).
But that's no out of the box solution.

Should not take that much longer I guess - installer beta has been released a
few days ago.

We will no longer support the current Debian Stable version.

Is Qt 4.6 still supported by the Qt-Project?
Are people using Deb Stable on the desktop?
Is there no way to get newer Qt for Deb Stable? I mean, in the worst
case we could build it in OBS but well, we have packaging hell enough

I know, its hard, but supporting Qt 4.6 is also difficult. When will the
next Debian stable be released?

Thats no argument, because we might be keen enough to install a later Qt
somewhere on that machine and build against that.

We do have Debian 6 building in OBS and as Tom mentions, the Debian 6-based CI
system is building it (successfully). So it must compile. But it keeps us from
simplifying and refactoring, and none of the main devs really check the legacy
code pathes.

That's the plan, at least on my side. Klaas?

Basically, you need to provide some kind of guarantee of API and ABI
stability. The overhead would lie in keeping things in sync. Typical scenario:

* Arch user has the latest and greatest
* Debian user has a two-minor steps older version
* they're source / binary incompatible
-> I have to jump through hoops to make the code build and work against both
-> My testing never catches all problems, complexity rises, I get a headache

That's basically why I'd like to keep it in the same repository, it ensures
that lib and client are in sync.

More or less, I have to dig into it less and less. That's good. :)

[Owncloud] GSoC idea: mobile app <--> oC News app

2013-03-06 Thread Alessandro Cosentino
Hi,

Finally I got myself to start writing the API for the News app.
Bernhard, Jan and I are going to be polishing the app during a
mini-sprint some time this month.
The point is: the app will be ready to be shipped before GSoC 2013 starts.

I wanted to propose a GSoC project, which I would mentor together with
Bernhard, for a mobile app that would interface the News app using the
new API.
It seems like there is a good interest for this and it looks like a
fun project for a student.
It can also serve as a proof of concept for future mobile apps that
interface single oC apps (I don't know if these apps should all be
merged in one single app).

The questions are:
- does this make sense? or it would make more sense to implement first
a mobile navigation theme for oC web interface?
- what mobile platform do you suggest? Obviously I advocate some open
source OS, but I don't have a feeling for which one it should be.
Firefox OS, Plasma Active, Android, Phonegap, ... ?

The UUID is required to identify a user anyway. And we need a solution

For ownCloud 5 it too late to get enhancements into it, [showstopper]

You can patch it yourself by replacing

with
$intname = $isUser ? $this->sanitizeUsername($this->readAttribute($dn,

Hope this helps,

Re: [Owncloud] website is down

2013-03-06 Thread Michael Grosser
The website issues are still not handled!
And won't for the next few days as it looks!
Great that you are still taking the "through hardware at it" approach,
but what about at least separate docs, website and download
servers/vms? that's like a few hours work and prevents everything from
going down when we have a minor spike in downloads.
Even putting it for 2 days on a CDN like akamai or be it
amazon/rackspace would be better.
It's just bad publicity for the site being down, especially after you
downloaded and want to install (with the help of the docs).
And to say that it's not the first time.
I know you have a dedicated sysadmin and therefore my suggestions to
help are not more welcome than they were 2 years ago, when these
issues first arose. But scaling a static download for a few days...
common... it's like saying: "Hey we provide some storage software, but
we can't even handle usual file downloads!"

That is something that needs to be fixed and not after something
happens, but during and better before. I'm telling this for a long
time, but having a project site with an uptime of 95% is just bad.

Fix this or let the community help and not just with some "Maybe a
torrent based solution would take load off"
A Torrent solution is setup in 5-15 min so do it, it's your server.
After it's setup you can ask for seeds. But that's something which
needs a fix and not just a we could/we may do something about it.
You could even have asked on the mailing list to get 1-2 people with
servers and push them the file and load balance.
I doubt that you have more traffic than 2 Gbit/s that should be fine
with 2 servers, perhaps 3.

For an appropriately funded inc with a sysadmin I really expect more.
Especially cause you don't wanna help with the server issue directly.
I'm not the only one thinking that way. I could write a lot more and
especially a lot worse for some people, but I want that fixed and
nothing more.
Decide what you wanna do!
