Sharepoint 2010 - Custom Forms/Silverlight..

2010-08-17 Thread Winston Pang
Hey guys,

Doing a little bit of SP2010 work.

Basically I want to build a custom form in silverlight, I know how to do it
with a web part, but I don't understand how to hook it up in association,
i.e.

Say there is a custom list called 'Clients'

Typically, it will generate the boiler plate new/edit/disp forms in aspx,
and the Add New Item link will be booked to that new.aspx page.

So here is where I'm confused how I configure it in Sharepoint Designer, how
would I add a new aspx etc page with a code behind to wire up my silverlight
goodness, how would that page get the initParams necessary to tap into SP.

If anyone has some good guides/links with writing a custom form for SP
Lists, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

We ended up using COM and manipulating the workbook and worksheets directly.
Tedious, time-consuming and fraught with danger! All because the customer
wanted a spreadsheet that "looks just like the report".

Luckily we target Excel 2003, at the moment, because side-by-side MS Office
installations can be problematic and we could not guarantee we could
reliably produce .xlsx files.

True. But the data has to come from somewhere and they are pretty happy with
the Access application they have and the reports it produces. If they want
to massage the data further, they then use Excel to do their own one-off,
individual bits. They are not interested in finding the data themselves -
they want it as it is in the reports as a starting point for their
spreadsheets. These are accountants / finance people. They want to be
confident of the starting point, and the reports give them that confidence.

You and I might do things differently, but we aren't the ones paying the
bills.

Odd. I see Excel as being a better app to do calculated fields/formatting
than Access.
