Azure upload limit

2015-08-19 Thread Greg Keogh
Folks, I wrote a utility to conveniently upload/download files from Azure
Blob Storage, it uses UploadFromStream
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj717380.aspx in its simplest
form. It's been working well for weeks, but this morning I tried to upload
a 25MB file and after 20 minutes it threw this:

Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Storage.StorageException occurred
  HResult=-2146233088
Message=The request was aborted: The request was canceled.
  Source=Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Storage

Experiments show I can upload 4, 8, 12, and 16 MB files, but 20 dies with
the error. I tried altering the ServerTimeout and MaximumExecutionTime
properties of the blob client and the blob request but it makes no
difference. Web searches as usual don't help.

Has anyone encountered this issue and defeated it?

Not hit that issue, but the files I upload are small images so unlikely.
Good to know there's a setting that helped.

Wouldn't you know it, seconds after I posted the upload problem, my last
experiment with 20MB finished okay. I discovered another settings that
looked suspiciously useful. If you set the properties on the Blob before
upload it seems to overcome the default limit:

 BlobRequestOptions
   .ServerTimeout
   .MaximumExeceutionTime

I don't if both are needed due to lack of experimenting time, but now my
uploads are going again. Setting the same properties on the Blob client
 also works.

A good anti-fatigue mat helps too. I went and bought a pack of gym mats
(those jigsaw ones) from Bunnings for around $18. There are 4 in a pack and
these ones have carpet on top. I use all four and get a decent amount of
cushioning. Without them, I get a sore back after a while, and the
traditional anti-fatigue mats aren't padded enough for me.

Love my Aeron – it’s the only chair I can sit in comfortably for
multiple hours. I got mine (and one for my wife) on eBay for about the
price of the Leap. Mine’s a C with adjustable lumbar support and arms.
Sam’s is a B with adjustable lumbar but fixed arms.

I had to wait a bit for them to come up, but it only took a week or
 so.

It terms of all the swanky extras for the Aeron, the one thing I
wish I had added was the adjustable lumber support. I’ve been super
 happy
with everything else about the chair just wish I had included this one
 thing.

Update on this if anyone cares. I went and tried out a Steelcase
Leap yesterday (showroom in Auckland is only open M-F). Felt plasticy
 to me
and cheap and even though it does have a lot of good options. If I do
 pull
the trigger it's going to be for the Aeron. I have a feeling it's also
because I'm on the larger side and so will prob go with the 'C' option
 as
 well.

Price wise was $745 for the Leap and $1500+ for the Aeron. Looking
at the options it can get up to $3000 for the Aeron if you bling it out
 with all the swanky extras.
