I know that some time ago I read on the list
about an organisation in New Zealand that had a great website for PTSD after
birth. I have an associate that has a mum in great distress at the moment and
I can't seem to find the post that had the website link. Would somebody please
post that to this list again.

RE: [ozmidwifery] Disturbing article (dated 1999)

2003-12-21 Thread Larry & Megan
Title: Salon | Cut me open!

This
woman is keen to promote herself as a feminist, but surely if she cared about
feminism she would be advocating for all women to have choices in childbirth,
not just to defend her way of birthing. To mention her ideas around what is myth
and what is fact, obviously based on sound research (not), just shows how little
she was/is informed about caesarean birth or any kind of birth at all.

I also
wish 2004 a year to be giving women real choices in childbirth and
giving Midwives the chance to truly be with women, with insurance thrown in as
well.

A
Merry Christmas to all
Megan

[ozmidwifery] contacts in Gosford & Sydney

2003-12-21 Thread Jen Semple
I'm a 3rd year BMid student in Melbourne.  I'll be going to catch up with friends in Gosford next year & am interested in making contact with midwives & learning about different midwifery programs in Gosford &/or Sydney.
Is anyone interested in meeting with me or could you pass on contact details of some one else I should get in touch with?
Thanks in advanced, Jen

RE: [ozmidwifery] statistics

2003-12-21 Thread Barbara Vernon
Dear Claire and Cas

Maternal mortality reports used to be prepared by the National Health &
Medical Research Council rather than the Australian Bureau of Statistics
- the latest maternal deaths report currently available is for the
1994-1996 triennium. The Australian institute of Health & Welfare has
now taken over responsibility for preparing these reports and they are
putting together a report due for publication in 2004 that will cover 2
trienniums i.e. 1997-99 and 2000-2002. The contact person at the
National Perinatal Statistics Unit is apparently Dr Liz Sullivan.

The key thing that will be pivotal about this report when it is released
is whether the break in trend of declining mortality over 15 years prior
to 1994 is confirmed as a trend - in other words the 1994-96 report
showed a marked jump in direct maternal deaths unlike the previous 15
years over which maternal deaths had declined. So was this an
aberration or a new trend of increasing deaths?

Claire, I would be very interested in having these same statistics.
Could you pls email me off list a copy of the Dutch documents you
mention?

Thanks, Barb.

RE: [ozmidwifery] statistics

2003-12-21 Thread Wayne and Cas
I have sent the info to your private address as it contains attachments
that will probably bounce if I send them to the list. Ignore the virus
warning if you get it... There is no virus in the attachments, it's just
a glitch with the files (don't ask me to explain now because I can't
remember why : ) ).

Cheers,

Cas.

Re: [ozmidwifery] PushPal Birthing Aid - IS THIS FOR REAL

2003-12-21 Thread Debbie Slater

I have emailed this company telling them that I
think the claims that they are making are misleading.

Wonder what they will say? (If
anything?)

Interestingly, I tried to use the feedback form on
their web site, but I was denied access ;-)

Instead of PushPal, perhaps the obstetrician
  should have called it -
      Stranded Beetle with Leggings!

Or even better, to alter something
useless to useful, that they could be used as knee pads for the more
natural birthing position of all fours.

Merry Christmas to all on the list.
