Great article Cas. Things do indeed look a little more promising for 2004.
And as this year draws to a close, I want to thank all those wonderful
ladies on this list who have helped me get through a really difficult year.
I want to also thank those who are continually striving for a better model
of care for all our future mum's to be.

*Slow may be your rewards but great will be the future.***

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and much peace for the New Year.

With Love Sonia W.

PS. 2003 for me started with a disaster and has almost ended in one..Had a
fire in my kitchen last night. Not too much damage but very shaken
Here's to a much better 2004! :)

[ozmidwifery] A positive news story to end the year on...

2003-12-22 Thread Wayne and Cas
Hi everyone,

This was in the Gold Coast Bulletin on Saturday... Almost word for word
from the press release I wrote... : ). Hope this provides some
encouragement for you all...

Cheers,

Cas.

The Gold Coast Bulletin
Edition 1SAT 20 DEC 2003, Page 058
Calendars push one-to-one care benefits
Babes boost midwives
by Nina Merrotsy

IT'S the four B's everyone should be reminded of all year, 'Bellies,
Bots, Boobs and Babes'.
That's why Gold Coast photographer Deirdre Cullen has made a calendar
about it.
As well as having a bit of fun and including her children Hannah, 7,
and Issac, 1, in one photo, Mrs Cullen said the underlying aim was to
raise awareness of the benefits of one-to-one midwifery care.
"All models and models' mums featured in the calendar benefited from
one-to-one midwifery care for their pregnancies and births either at
home or through the Royal Women's birth centre in Brisbane," said
Mrs Cullen who produces the calendar free-of-charge.
"Along with beautiful babies and pregnant bellies from some of
Queensland's finest, this year's calendar features an extensive list of
resources and a free fertility chart.
"A must for every woman having a baby."
The Gilston resident said she was very excited about how well it was
being received.
"For the 2003 calendar we only thought we'd need to produce 100 but
then we went to 1000 and they sold without any problems . . . so for
2004 it was a bit harder to know how many we would need and we have
already sold 2000."
Maternity Coalition Inc is lobbying the State Government to adopt the
National Maternity Action Plan, which proposes a community midwifery
program in Queensland to promote woman-centred birth care, reduce
intervention rates, costs to Queensland taxpayers and improve the
wellbeing of Queensland women.
MC Queensland president Bruce Teakle said a recent Australian study
featured in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology estimated
that establishing a midwifery model of care for healthy pregnant women
would save taxpayers $61 million.
"At the moment, the current situation where we have one in three
women having caesareans will only change if women are given access to
evidence-based information and world class maternity care," he
said.
The calendar, which features black and white photos, is endorsed by
celebrated pregnancy and birth author Sheila Kitzinger.
The calendars can be bought at www.homebirth.org.au or otherwise from
www.birthinternational.com or www.natureschild.com.au.

Title: Message

hI Diane and
all...

That's the one! We
are also providing support for fellow PTSD sufferers here in Australia. Tell
your associate that the mother can contact me via email first up if she wants.
The woman who runs our support network has just had her second baby so is out of
commission for awhile. In the meantime I can take queries at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Merry Xmas to all
and may next year bring comfort and encouragement to us all... I have a good
feeling that it will!

Cheers,

Cas.

[ozmidwifery] Seasons Greetings

2003-12-22 Thread Andrea Robertson
Hello Everyone,

The festive season has come around again (and so quickly!) and also time
for holidays. I am signing off the list for 2 weeks while I take a much
needed break and will rejoin when I get back in early January.

I hope that you all have a wonderful time with your families over Christmas
and that 2004 is a year of peace, good health and fun for you.

Merry Christmas!

Andrea
