2003-03-26 Thread Rita Yarlett
Hi,

Have she tried Lasinoh on it as yet, I found that to help me so much, and it
doesn't need to be washed off at all before attaching baby.

It even relieved the first pangs of tenderness experienced as well

Re: [ozmidwifery] Re: sore & dry areola

2003-03-25 Thread Marilyn Kleidon
You know there was a hypnobirther on the list a while back and we all kind
of flamed him. I think it was his language. After his input, it was back in
november I think, when i went back to Seattle i asked some of my friends who
had both done hypno for birth and studied it an taught it to mums, and most
are really in favour of it. The way one of my classmates described it was in
hind sight yes she experienced pain but it was manageable and though very
intense and took her breath away was not perceived as painful at the time.
It was like she really surrendered and was in a labour trance once she was
in active labour. She had about 3 hours of warm up and then 2 hours of
intense labour (she was a primip and a skinny thing pre baby) here baby was
9lb 10 oz. No tears. Waterbirth, midwives barely made it:because she was a
primip took their time in getting there (she had loads of classmates for
support). When they made a call and listened to her they realised she was
passively pushing so they literally flew over to her home. And just loads of
milk for that baby. A bit of a PPH which they took care of at home. She says
the hpnobirther forgot to program her not to bleed, but once she thought
about it it stopped (with just a bit of help from syntocinon:she did gush a
little I was told). So, i don't know, it may be a placebo, but you know
placebos and suggestion and visualisations, and aromas, and herbal teas do
work for some and I don't think they do any harm. I think they would work
for more of us if we opened up and let them. It is just comfort. My
classmate also drank red raspbery tea throughout the 3rd trimester as a
uterine tonic, so she felt that helped too. She is a herbalist so she
wouldn't use the capsules as they aren't the whole plant. Anyway i think it
is a powerful tool if you embrace it and harmless if you dabble.

Hello Jan - regarding the Hypnobirthing query -
A fellow midwife found me a one-page article published in the latest
"Wellbeing" magazine on Hypnobirthing - Australian based info and contacts.
Let me know if you would like me to post you a photocopy. Quite a good
theoretical description of it, though I felt it was a bit weak in the
'scientific explanation '. Cheers, Lois

Re: [ozmidwifery] Re: sore & dry areola

2003-03-25 Thread jo hunter

Jackie McFarlane in Sydney offers a service called Body-centred Hypnotherapy
for childbirth, I presume this is the same as hypnobirthing??? Her email is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or phone 9566 1035.
Has your client tried expressing a bit of milk regularly and rubbing it
around her aerola - worked for me!
Cheers
