Re: [ozmidwifery] follow throughs!

Good work Jessica, although, never forget this.
Women LOVE student midwives. Dont EVER apologise for lack of knowledge or
experience to them. You are able to give them what more 'senior'  midwives
are often not. Lots more time, lots of  fresh enthusiasm, unfeigned
interest in their personal cases, and a listening ear. I always thought the
student midwives ( wait- am I supposed to say 'beginning midwives - is that more
politically correct? :- )   )  were a gift in my working day-
because they could give women what a midwife with a broader range of daily
responsibilities  often could not. I'm sure you'll be a great support to
them.

As an aside - I bumped into an old colleague the
other day ( used to be an old 'student' woops, beginner!) and she had just seen
my post on the Chris Bohalijan book 'Midwives'.  She agreed with my initial
thought that it was indeed fiction. If I remember correctly, there is some
suggestion that this is a true story, but I felt at the time that this was all
in the spirit of the storytelling atmosphere. I may be wrong, can anyone clarify
for sure?

cheers,
Robin

At
the beginning of Chris Bohalijian's book MIDWIVES it says it's fiction, great
read.
Also "longitudinal case studies" for student midwives/midwifery
students/pupil midwives/beginning midwives (- I get lost), I'm very excited to
be a "follow through lady" for a midi student where I work. I have only great
memories of the 4 "follow throughs" I had when "doing mid" in (ahem) '88.
Couldn't believe my luck to become pregnant near the beginning of an
intake!
