 Dear Judy

Thanks for your feedback on breastmilk. We were aware when we presented
information on this topic that it is a hot topic and have tried to present
facts without being biased. Our main aim was to provide information for
women who were, for some reason or another, unable to breastfeed. However,
it appears some of the copy may not be as 'neutral' as we had intended and I
have passed your information on to the contributors who are working on our
site. They have made some alterations in areas which may be miscontrued.

As you will notice, we do not take advertising or promotion, nor are we
sponsored by any organisation. Our site is written and maintained by
volunteers and we try our best to present multiple points of view.

Thanks again for taking the time to provide your thoughts.

I am sorry but I won't be reccomending your site to anyone with your luke
 warm policies on breast feeding.
Your reasons given to bottle feed are selfish and materialistic. It is
this sort of attitude that is contributing to the breakdown of families and
 our social structure today.
Men need to realise that their role is not to take over the job of women
but to nurture her and protect her and make it safe for her to use her God
given ability to feed her baby in the most healthy way available.
As for control over the babies feeding quantities, just as you only eat
what you want to eat and would resist efforts to have food forced down you
throat, a baby who is breast fed gets the choice of only eating to need, not
force. A more likely chance to be normal weighted in an increasingly obese
 society.

Re: Re: Contact us From Ninemonths

2002-02-10 Thread Jo Slamen

Judy and Listers,

I also 'complained' to ninemonths regarding the article in question (thanks
for the referral Pinky), and received a reply almost word for word the same
as Judy's.

I have just now replied back to Ms Bowman (they're going to really hate me)
pointing out the misgivings I have on her reasoning: Our main aim was to
provide information for women who were, for some reason or another, unable
to breastfeed., since to me it appears this material is designed to be read
by pregnant women, not those who have had or are having breastfeeding
difficulties - and therein lies the most annoying aspect of this article -
to me anyway.

Re: Contact us From Ninemonths

2002-02-10 Thread Macha McDonald

Heres what I wrote to them and my relies.

I submitted this letter to them. Its not really good as my little one was
at my feet, pulling my pants down, bashing the keyboard and eating the mouse
mat.

You have stated in about us that your online guide to pregnancy, birth and
life is to provide information, support, and guidance. You claim to be
providing the best information and saving the expectant parents time.
However, I think it is clear that your company has done very little
research, and is presenting issues in a biased, anti-baby manner, contrary
to UN and WHO reccomendations. You present an argument between breast or
bottle, when in fact, there is no argument. It is officially accepted that
breastmilk is superior to artificial human's milk in every way. How can you
state that formula 'today' has properties closely matched to that of human
milk, when we don't know enough about human milk and the availability of
nutrients in different combinations. Human milk changes day to day, hour to
hour in nutritional value, quantity and taste. Yet, you state that formula
is similar It doesn't even come close. You present an argument that
states that a bottle feeding mother can be free to go to work, yet you don't
mention that a breastfeeding mother can also do the same. You say that
breastmilk can prevent a long list of diseases, but you don't comment that
feeding infant formulas can cause these diseases. You say that breastmilk
is inexpensive, when in fact, it is free. You also make an insinuation that
breastfeeding can cause sibling rivalry (where did you get that one
from), extreme discomfort to the mother, that the father cannot nurture and
care for a breastfed infant as well as he could if the infant was bottlefed.
I suggest you do some research about the issue, and present it in an
unbiased view, rather than the way in which an infant formula company would
present it.

exactly the same as the other reply...still no changes to the site...but
then

Sorry if I came over a little harsh, I didnt expect a reply. I can see
where you are coming from, but really there is no decision to be made. All
mothers should be encouraged to breastfeed, not offered a choice of what can
to some people appear as 2 equals. Rather than worrying about making
mothers who have been unable to breastfeed (I am one of them) feel 'guilt',
I suggest that there should be another section about women's feelings of
grief when things go wrong. They should not be made to feel guilty, but
acknowledge their grief for losing their b/feeding relationship and suggest
ways to improve the realtionship with baby, like close feeding, co sleeping
and bathing etc. They should also be told that it is not them who have
failed, but rather the system that has failed them, possibly due to
inappropriate advice and lack of eduaction. Maureen Minchin's book called
breastfeeding matters is a great guide for this and suggested reading if
anyone wants to.
Macha.

Dear Macha,

Online at the moment so I thought I'd send a reply. Thanks for the
suggestion about starting another section. We have had a lot of response and
queries about breast feeding so it appears that there definitely needs to be
more written on this topic and we will endeavour to do so. Feedback like
yours (and no it wasn't too harsh) is really useful as we need to know what
people are interested/concerned about. All the best and thanks again for
taking the time to provide information.
