Multiple search scopes error
Hi guys, I've run into a typical end user problem. Because the Advanced Search web part allows them to pick multiple scopes they tend to select them all, just to be safe, even though one of them is called All Sites! In doing so, they receive the error: Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information. I know why this is happening [http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointsearch/thread/fb78decc-aeb5-4c04-bb75-473c25f8c11d/] but am not sure of the best approach to rectify it. I'd originally added some JavaScript to the page via a CEWP to uncheck the selected scope when another selection was made but this wasn't ideal. Aside from educating end users, are there any other suggestions? Even the Sharepoint links list has same limitation. I usually work around this by a content editor webpart when I have long URLs for forms services pages, and I get some other benefits through being able to provide more text, pass extra parameters \jEy 2009/3/19 Nigel Hertz nigel.he...@stockland.com.au Hi all Does anyone know of a way to get around the 255 character limit in Office programs, relating to hyperlinks? RE: 255 character limit in Office hyperlinks [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Jey, yes, emails are in HTML format. Fadi, that would work, however I’m not too keen on having a 400 character url in the middle of the email J I’ve actually found out a way to do it though – very weird. If you select some text and press CTRL-K to insert a link, and then directly paste the URL in, it will trim it. If, however, you select some text and press CTRL-K, switch to the browser window, copy the URL, and switch back to the email, it automatically pastes the full URL in, without trimming. RE: STSADM import [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
I've also had this error when importing and exporting site collections on both pre post SP1 environments (as well as various other stsadm commands also). My point is, due to the generic error message, more information will need to diagnose and find the correct solution to get past this problem, rather than installing a hotfix and hoping it will work.. Troubleshooting 101. J That being said, Id highly recommend getting to SP1 as soon as possible due all the typical advantages of installing Service Packs (performance, bug fixes,.. the usual service pack items). Note: Please use a test environment prior to installing SP1 on your production environment. RE: STSADM import [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
That being said, Id highly recommend getting to SP1 as soon as possible due all the typical advantages of installing Service Packs (performance, bug fixes,.. the usual service pack items). Not to mention the fact that SP0(RTM)went out of support on the 13th Jan this year. http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifesupsps Best to get the upgrade done now, rather than trying to rush it through should you ever need to cal MS for support. My point is, due to the generic error message, more information will need to diagnose and find the correct solution to get past this problem, rather than installing a hotfix and hoping it will work.. Troubleshooting 101. :) That being said, Id highly recommend getting to SP1 as soon as possible due all the typical advantages of installing Service Packs (performance, bug fixes,.. the usual service pack items). Note: Please use a test environment prior to installing SP1 on your production environment. I remember it having an issue with the OOTB workflow. I'll look around and see if I can find the kb article. Are you able to check the logs and see if there are any extra information, i.e ULS logs (typical found in the 12 hive at c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\LOGS) or event viewer?
